**ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW**

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is one of Canada’s longest-standing institutions and is deeply embedded in the history and unfolding story of our country. The RCMP and its symbols - the “red serge”, Mounties on horseback, and the Musical Ride - have become icons of Canadian Heritage familiar around the world.

The RCMP Heritage Centre is a non-profit museum that represents a rich space for historical preservation, exploration of alternate perspectives, and the pursuit of reconciliation. It has become a major destination centre that celebrates the traditions and history of the RCMP. More recently, the RCMP Heritage Centre is embarking on an exciting new chapter of its own story by undergoing the process to become established as a national museum in Canada, embracing a new vision with social impact.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

This position plays a key role in engaging, empowering, and educating youth, families, visitors, tourists and other stakeholders by researching, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating education and public programs at the museum. This includes a range of activities such as educational programming, both in-person and virtual tours and programs, special events (like Canada Day), and camps for youth.

This position ensures these inspiring, educational, engaging programs complement and supplement the strategic goals and objectives of the RCMP Heritage Centre.

This energetic collaborator will lead alongside our other community education program coordinators to support the RCMP Heritage Centre through organizational change as the Centre delivers a world-class visitor experience while working toward a dream 20 years in the making—achieving national museum status.

**FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE**:
**Strategically Aligned Planning and Oversight**
- Under guidance of the CEO, you will be responsible for understanding the organization’s strategic priorities and initiatives to develop and direct the organization’s programming offering.
- Following an operational workplan for the successful implementation of the Centre’s Strategic Plan; reporting to the CEO on progress and data tracking.
- Strategic review of programming to ensure strategic alignment, relevance, timeliness, community and stakeholder need alignment, etc.

**Education Program Development and Delivery**
- You will be a natural teacher - with the ability to lead people of all ages through education programs.
- Oversight and leadership in researching museum programs, understanding the local and Canadian market offering to ensure our programming remains engaging, captivating, and relevant (understanding what is offered at other museums, science centres, and facilities like ours).
- Research and development/creation of education programs - both virtual programs, and those offered in-Centre, and at times, in partnership with partner organizations.
- Preparing and updating lesson plans and associated materials (PowerPoints, handouts, worksheets, quizzes, art materials, etc.).
- Reporting and evaluation of programs.
- Working with the Marketing team to develop materials and promote and advertise programs.

**Visitor Experience**
- Delivering guided tours of the museum galleries and guided trolley tours of Depot to schools, public and special groups.
- Delivering a scripted welcome/introduction to groups.
- At times, operating the Visitor Services desk and admissions point of sale, or registration processes for events/activities, and taking turns opening and closing the museum.

**Programming Portfolio Management**
- Working closely and collaboratively with the programming team, and across all Centre portfolios, and volunteers.
- Properly tracking all programming statistics and data.
- Using the point of sale system and event calendar for efficient and effective booking, invoicing, and accounts receivables.
- Managing and coordinating various bookings - needing good communication within the programming team, Visitor Services Lead, and facility rentals.
- Being on top of programming materials and inventory needs for day to day and special events.
- Work as a team, and independently to monitor and evaluate all programming activities to ensure goals are achieved, budgets are adhered to, and growth can be benchmarked and built upon.
