Kanata, Canada Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Full time

**Communications Coordinator**

**Full Time, Location: Ottawa Capital Region**

**About Us**:
The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) is the recognized voice of police leaders in Canada, both nationally and internationally. We support today’s police professionals and help develop the police leaders of tomorrow. We are a national, non-profit association representing over 1,300 police leaders from across the country. Our initiatives are focused on strategic issues and priorities of relevance to police at all levels, including municipal, regional, provincial, federal and First Nations police services. We work with partners, stakeholders, and government agencies to advance legislation, regulations and policies that support crime prevention, law enforcement, and public safety.

The national office consists of a small but mighty team of less than 10 people committed to working together to support and serve our members. Joining the CACP means becoming part of one of the proudest long-standing national professional associations in Canada. This position is an opportunity to join a cohesive team that embraces new ideas with a collaborative spirit to help create opportunities for police leaders to meet, share knowledge, grow and advance the profession. Working at CACP offers the close-knit, supportive environment of a small operation, with the impactful and exciting work (and pace) of a much larger organization.

**The Role**:
**Your duties and responsibilities**:

- Be responsible for the creative/content development of communications and promotional material in support of the CACP’s conferences and events program, awards program, public awareness campaigns, and other projects and initiatives.
- Manage the CACP’s digital communication assets including social media accounts, e-broadcast communications, and the website to ensure information is timely, current, and accurate.
- Support the Communications Manager, as required, in the delivery of the CACP’s committee, government relations and media relations functions.
- Monitor traditional and social media for public policy issues of importance to police leaders in Canada.
- Produce the CACP’s bilingual weekly electronic newsletter - the CACP News Alert.
- Oversee the content development and editing process for the CACP’s publications: triannual Canadian Police Chief Magazine, annual Membership Guide, and Annual Review.
- Work with the Communications Manager to identify and introduce new communications vehicles as well as evaluate and improve all current communication tools.
- Draft external communications as directed by the Executive Director or Communications Manager.
- Keep accurate, detailed, and confidential records of issues of importance to police leaders in Canada.
- All staff work as a team in partnership to ensure daily office functions are fulfilled by performing other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Communications Manager.

**What you bring to the role**:

- A post-secondary degree in communications, public relations or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in communications or public relations
- Experience with social media platforms
- Experience with web publishing and content management systems
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write in a clear and concise fashion
- Excellent verbal communication skills in both English and French
- A proven ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Critical and creative thinking combined with a thorough and current understanding of communication best practices
- Exceptional organizational, project management, and time management skills to deal with multiple projects and timelines
- Meticulous attention to detail
- The ability to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Diplomacy, discretion, and relationship management skills
- Good initiative and judgment
- Experience working with a professional association would be an asset
- Experience in photography/videography would be assets

**To Apply**:
**Benefits**:

- Company pension
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Life insurance
- On-site parking
- Paid time off

Schedule:
