**Responsibilities**:
OVERALL PURPOSE

The Guideway Technician is responsible for the inspection and repair of mainline track, special trackwork, switch machines, structures, reaction rail, power rail, drainage, walkways and fencing to ensure safe and reliable BCRTC operation.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works independently or under the direction of the Guideway Supervisor to accomplish scheduled or unscheduled maintenance functions on the guideway.

Such work to include:
Inspection, repair and maintenance of yard and mainline track, switches and switch machines and to ensure the integrity of the track upon completion of the work.
Inspection, repair and maintenance of power rail, reaction rail and to ensure the integrity of track upon completion of the work.
Inspection, repair and maintenance of guideway structure, drainage, walkways and fences, ballast and ties.

Implements work permits, undertakes maintenance and repair work on the guideway and returns area to the responsible authority upon completion.

Interprets maintenance manuals and drawings. Prepares charts, schematics and completes all necessary documentation including work orders and logs.

Makes recommendation for hardware and procedural changes that become evident.

Performs inspections and tests as instructed.

Accounts for all materials used in performance of duties.

Operates rail bourne equipment, including speeders, Unimogs, cranes and trains revenue vehicles.

Signs off work as being completed to standard.

Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.

Operates motor vehicles with valid BC driver’s license.

Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.

Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.

**Qualifications**:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or equivalent;
Minimum four (4) years’ experience in maintenance and repair of railway works or a combination of track maintenance, experience and/or training from recognized course(s) in rail maintenance;
Red Seal or Journeyperson Trade Certificate in a mechanical trade would be an asset;
One year minimum experience in railway track inspection; or a combination of experience and training from a recognized course(s) in track inspection would be an asset;
Experience operating rail borne equipment.

Valid class 5 BC Driver's License.

**Other Information**:
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

**Work Schedule**:
40 hours per week.

This is a full-time temporary position.

**Rate of Pay**:
Wage: $55.20 per hour
