**Responsibilities**:
OVERALL PURPOSE

The Plant Serviceperson is responsible for assisting the Plant Technicians in the performance of fixed facilities, maintenance and repair.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works under the direction of the Plant Supervisor and the Technicians to accomplish scheduled or unscheduled maintenance of building systems, elevators, escalators and fixed facilities.

Assists the Technicians in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical or electronics problems for any BCRTC fixed facility system.

Participates in the accounting for all materials used in performance of the maintenance effort.

Operates shop equipment including forklift, cranes, grinders, etc.

Utilizes hand and light power tools in repair and maintenance activities.

Operates heavy equipment and vehicles as required.

Operates motor vehicle (4 wheel drive/standard transmission) with valid BC driver’s licence.

Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.

Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.

Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
High school graduation or equivalent.

Completion of several years of trades training leading toward a relevant Journeyman BC Buildings Trade Qualification.

Valid class 3 BC driver’s licence.

**Experience**:
Minimum of three (3) years maintenance experience in one or more of the building trades is required.

Experience in the operation of shop equipment and power tools.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

**Work Schedule**:
40 hours per week.

**Rate of Pay**:
Wage: $43.67 per hour
