The Student Association of BCIT is a non-profit student services and advocacy organization at the second largest post-secondary institution in British Columbia. The SA supports and enhances the quality of student life for over 48,000 full-time and part-time students across five campuses. Students lead our organization and drive our strategy. **The Position.**

The Social Policy Researcher is responsible for supporting the development of the Student Association’s policy advocacy by contributing to the review and analysis of available literature and studies on education policy. In the role, the Researcher will develop valuable critical thinking and communication skills, while participating in efforts to generate increased awareness and understanding of relevant policies among colleagues and internal stakeholders.

**More specifically, your key duties and responsibilities will be the following**:
**Public Policy Research**
- Assist external advocacy staff in researching and analyzing public policy matters affecting post-secondary education in BC
- Research historic studies and statistical data in relational to student outcomes
- Consolidate and analyze comparative data on other student associations’ structure and decision-making process

**Research Presentation and Communication**
- Work with the others to prepare briefing materials for incoming BCITSA Executives
- Research and summarize the structure of the Association, the state of education policy, and the organizing framework for post-secondary institutions
- Assist with drafting correspondence and presentations concerning education policy

**Operational Duties**
- Understand and follow all Association policies and procedures
- Assist in reviewing and consolidating policies, procedures, and processes applicable to the external advocacy work of the Student Association and its Executives

**Relationship Building, Networking and Communication**
- Cultivate authentic relationships with all staff, as well as key internal and external stakeholders such as BCIT officials, TransLink, and various public sector actors
- Work to compile applicable contact lists and resources to assist the Association in developing and maintaining various external relationships

**Other Related Duties**
- Assist other staff with duties, especially when busy
- Other related duties as required

**BCITSA Agent**
- Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when interacting with any internal or external stakeholders
- Understand and promote our mission and values naturally and know our basic history

**Supplementary Information**
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Must be able to focus on a digital computer display for long periods of time

- Multi-tasking skills
