**About Us**:
The History Department studies the past to prepare historically informed global citizens for the challenges of today and tomorrow. Our faculty and students produce historical knowledge and interpretations that reveal how and why the past matters.

We have several areas of research focus in history: Canadian, Digital, Environmental/ Science/Medicine, Gender/Women, Indigenous, International/Global, Public History, Social/Cultural, and War/Conflict. Several of our faculty have cross-appointments to other departments or programs.

**Responsibilities**:
**The Assistant Curator's key responsibilities are**:
**A. Collections Management**
- catalogue backlog of 105 artifacts from acquisition to final placement into storage including photography and creation of PastPerfect records
- data entry, including research from past student essays, and checking 255 PastPerfect records to resolve issues caused by past transfer of records from old database
- unpack artifacts and reorganize storage area that was renovated last year
- research hazardous materials and controlled drugs to create handling, storage, and exhibit policies

**B. Research and Exhibit Development**
- research local physicians/artifact donors to populate the ‘People’ function of PastPerfect
- research and development of a four-case exhibition on a topic of intern’s choosing
- curate updated ‘New Acquisitions’ case
- oral history interviews of two physicians (one for research on medical instruments chosen for exhibit and one for the New Acquisitions case)

**C. Public Outreach**
- update online version of our PastPerfect database
- update history of doctors page on our website based on research above
- research social media plans from comparable institutions, create a social media plan, and manage and create content for our accounts
- digitize our rare print publications to upload to Medical Heritage Library on InternetArchive.org
- present aspect of research to the History of Medicine group at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry

**Qualifications**

**Education**:

- University degree in History, Museum Studies, Public History, Art History, Classics or a related field

**Experience**:

- Experience interviewing, recording and transcribing oral interviews
- Experience managing and creating professional social media content
- Practical experience handling artifacts is preferred, especially medical artifact artifact experience;
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

- Ability to perform historical research; collections management; exhibit development; oral history; social media; writing for and speaking to the public
- Digital skills, such as social media, digitization software, Audacity, MS Word, Powerpoint, Cascade, and PastPerfect
- An interest in a career in museums or related field
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work in teams and individually
