**JOB SUMMARY**

Niagara Region’s Community Services Department is seeking a summer student to assist our Housing services division with policy development and implementation.

This is an excellent student opportunity for someone enrolled in a related post-secondary program, who wants to work as part of a team that provides help to tens of thousands of Niagara residents each year. In addition to regular services, the department also has some exciting initiatives and projects on the go that the student will have the opportunity to participate in.

Reporting to the Manager of Compliance and Community Engagement and under the guidance of our Housing Access Supervisor, the student will assist with a variety of human services and policy support functions. The placement is a professional, client-focus, highly confidential computerized office environment, providing support to departmental initiatives.

**The Summer Student has the following responsibilities**:

- Finalizing policy documents
- Developing and executing a communication plan for policy changes
- Coordinating tasks associated with policy changes
- Internal and external communication focus
- Research and write content for various material
- Support divisional work as required
- Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Other responsibilities as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Educational/knowledge**
- Currently enrolled in a related post-secondary program, such a Post-Secondary Degree in a Public/Business Administration, Social Sciences, Social Work, Human Services, or related degree
- Courses and/or training in policy, research and evaluation
- Project management experience an asset
- **KNOWLEDGE**:

- Clear understanding of the policy lifecycle and best practices in writing policies and procedures
- Exceptional analytical, evaluation and planning skills to conduct program and policy analysis to address complex business issues
- Knowledge of project management practices
- Comfortable communicating with internal and external audiences
- Experience with policy or program-based initiatives that involve diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Writing policy and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively; selecting the appropriate communication methods and tools, depending on the audience & situation
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service based on Niagara Region values
- Ability to work both in a team and independently; taking personal responsibility for tasks and deadlines
- Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to learn additional programs as required.

- Must provide proof of enrollment in a related post-secondary program
- Must be available to start work for the summer term (July-August)
