The CSU 52 **Union Organizer & Educator** is responsible for coordinating a variety of key accountabilities, focusing on internal activities, including union membership drives, member engagement campaigns, education of union shop stewards, special event activities, member onboarding and orientation, and political action coordination. The position reports to the Sr. Membership Engagement/Union Educator and works closely with the Union’s Board of Directors, Chief Steward, Director of Labour Relations, committee chairs, and CSU 52 staff to promote CSU 52 as a successful Union and place where members can safely work in a positive environment, be respected by others, benefit from union membership, and receive fair wages. This position coordinates relevant budget expenditures and ensures organization, education and community initiatives, projects and programs while maintaining a positive media outlook for the organization.

Working under the guidance, the position operates within approved budget(s) and resources, with a degree of independence. In this responsible role, the position develops organizing plans and meetings, files submissions for ALRB hearings, creates educational programs, and supports other union and member initiatives (i.e., member onboarding and orientation). The **Union Organizer & Educator**also participates in special projects, such as the organizing New Membership Campaigns, developing Community, Bargaining and Strike Awareness Events, Shop Steward Education Sessions, etc. The position works in team environment within established guidelines, policies and procedures and the Steelworkers collective bargaining agreement. The position is expected to build strong relationships with all union levels, foster collaboration/teamwork, implement operational strategies, and encourage a positive union environment. This position also provides weekly oversight through individual and group meetings, regular communication, member education and training, and community outreach.

The **Union Organizer and Educator** provides guidance to applicable administrative staff, current and new members, and project teams, but does directly supervise permanent or temporary staff. The position takes into consideration approved strategies, plans, policies, priorities within the Union’s vision, mission, goals and objectives. The position is also expected to operate within approved budgets, resource utilization, and organizational needs and guide and oversees the work of contractors/consultants, members, shop stewards, and committees. The position also deals with emergent issues related to its job role as authorized by the Board decisions and membership votes. Within a team environment, the incumbent works within established rules, guidelines and procedures. Creates programs to educate and update Union stewards on relevant CSU 52 issues (i.e., health/safety issues, bargaining proposals, LR grievances and jurisdictional issues, job evaluation systems.
