The Creative Arts Program Assistant will work under the direction of the Spiritual Life Team members.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
**Program Development**:

- Collaborate with the Spiritual Life and Recreation teams to develop and implement a creative art and/or music program that aligns with the Christian values of Shepherd Village.
- Design and organize art and/or music projects, workshops, and activities that cater to older adults of varying physical and cognitive abilities.

**Facilitation and Instruction**:

- Lead or assist in offering creative art and/or music sessions, providing guidance and support to residents as they engage in various artistic activities.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages spiritual exploration and expression through art and/or music.

**Community Engagement**:

- Actively engage with residents, building rapport and understanding their individual needs and preferences.
- Encourage social interaction and collaboration among residents during art and/or music sessions.

**Documentation and Evaluation**:

- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress in the creative art and music program.
- Collect feedback from residents, families, and staff to continuously improve and refine the program.

**Collaboration**:

- Collaborate with other staff members from various departments, including the Spiritual Life, Nursing, and Recreation teams, Pet, Art, and Music therapists, and integrate the creative art and/or music program(s) into the overall care plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- A commitment to Christian values and a desire to facilitate spiritual growth through creative arts and music.
- Experience, or interest in gaining experience, working with older adults, particularly those with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.
- Background in art, art therapy, or a related field is preferred.
- Background in music, music therapy, or a related field is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt and modify activities to meet the diverse needs of residents.
- Communicate positively with other staff, residents, and their families.
- Positive attitude and a willingness to assist older adults with excellent customer service.

**What youth participants are eligible?**

To be eligible, youth must:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age **at the beginning **of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

**Duration and hours of work**

Jobs must be full-time (30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week). If a youth is provided less than 30 hours of work for any week, their wages may be deemed ineligible for reimbursement unless consent has been granted from Service Canada for exceptional circumstances (e.g. to accommodate persons with disabilities).

$16.55/hour (minimum 30 hours up to 37.5 hours/week)
