Burlington, Canada Voortman Bakery Full time

The bakery controller is a business partner with Operations management and provides financial and strategic leadership to the manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for cost accounting, general accounting, financial reporting, and maintaining an environment of best practices and accountability at the manufacturing facility.

This role has dual reporting, the role reports to the local Bakery Director as well as to the Director Bakery Finance.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides leadership on, participates in, and provides risk analysis for the development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and the enhancements of inventory and cost management processes and systems.
- Implement, perform, and manage bakery practices that ensure an environment of accountability including:Manage daily / weekly KPI’s around inventory and manufacturing costs.

Develop and publish meaningful month-end financial reports to key Operations Management about financial results and opportunities for performance improvementConduct variance review and root-cause analysis meetings with Operations Management on issues affecting bakery performanceWork with Operations Management to evaluate existing BOM’s and routings and adjust as requiredDesign, validate and routinely perform controls around goods receipt, goods shipped, internal inventory movements, product specifications and weightValidate the accuracy of reported material usage, scrap, and reworkPerform cycle counts and assist Operations Management in the identification and correction of transactional processing deficiencies
- Manage the timely and accurate completion of month-end financial closings in conjunction with Corporate accounting including the following:Validate month-end inventory cut-offs

Observation and coordination of month-end physical countsReconciliation and analysis of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventoriesRecord and verify manufacturing costs and associated variancesProper allocation of manufacturing costs to responsible partiesVariance analysis of cost of goods produced, manufacturing variances, and inventoriesCompletion and review of bakery level financial accruals and other financial transactions in accordance with Corporate format and time requirements
- Provide financial guidance, support, and education to key management personnel on key financial or performance metricsReview of labor costs, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution costs, inventory levels, etc., with Operations Management.

Provides in-depth analysis on variance to plan and/or forecast.Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis and evaluation of the bakery cost structure and production trends to identify and execute cost reduction strategies.Creates and/or provides insightful and competitive analytics that drive decision making.Assist in the development of monthly and annual production, staffing and spending financial plans and forecast updates.Assist in the development and periodic updates to standard costs.
- Work across organizational boundaries and at all levels of the company to achieve plant, department, and corporate objectives.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting, MBA, CMA, CPA preferred.
- 5- 10 years of experience in a production facility with an emphasis on internal controls, operational accounting, inventory accounting, and cost accounting. Experience in the consumer-packaged goods industry preferred.
- Experience working with SAP FI, CO, MM, and LE modules or other ERP system.
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability and knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute strategic direction.
- Possesses forward thinking leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate, led by example, encourage teamwork, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to drive results, affect change, and have a positive impact on the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High ethical and moral standards.
- Deliver high quality and accurate results.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Access, etc.).
