The Ktunaxa Nation Council has an opportunity for a Policy Advisor in Cranbrook BC. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the opportunity is suited for someone who enjoys creating consistency by developing, reviewing and implementing policies, contributing to positive outcomes for the Nation as a whole.

This is a full-time permanent position with full benefits.

**Key Responsibilities**:
The Policy Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing policies across KNC, working with the Chief Administration Officer and Inter-Sector Director Committee to create consistency in methodology, framework, and language for the development, implementation and review of KNC policies and standards internal to the KNC.

The overall objective is to design a fair, effective and efficient policy environment for the KNC that defines, guides, monitors and evaluates KNC operational procedures and processes. This position directly supports risk prevention for the KNC in creating and implementing transparent, fair and consistent policies and standard operating procedures across the KNC. In this regard, the Policy Advisor is responsible for providing advice and recommendations to the CAO as well as serving as a resource for Directors and Leadership.

**The position is responsible to**:

- monitor trends and developments:

- plan, identify and advise on policy gaps;
- undertake policy analyses;
- provide briefings on suggested reforms; and
- act as a resource on the drafting and development of changes to administrative systems.

The Policy Advisor will also work with the KNC Communications Manager on preparing responses to correspondence and the ongoing monitoring of issues created by media and other governments.

**Key Requirements**:

- Masters degree in First Nations Studies, Public Administration, or related disciplines
- 10+ years minimum experience providing independent research, anaylsis and advice on complex issues, including evalutation of options and recommendations
- Experience meeting, consulting and corresponding with government officials, industry representatives and the general public on policy proposals and existing government policies, including explanation of technical details on complex issues.
- Experience preparing briefing materials and briefing senior officials and members of the executive council.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including the demonstrated ability to use a variety of methodologies and techniques in the analysis of complex projects and policy issues
- Emotional maturity: interacts with others in a respectful manner with demonstrated qualities of sincerity, helpfulness, courtesy and humility
- Problem solving skills coupled with analytical abilities that enable consideration of details and complexities of issues while achieving results

- Ethical conduct and responsibility: sets a positive example and fulfills responsibilities with the highest diplomacy of integrity, ethics and professionalism. Must be discreet with sensitive confidential information.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements including a criminal records check
- Have and develp knowledge related to the development of a Ktunaxa Law Making process.
