**Summary of Responsibilities**:

- In consultation with the Director, S,S&CO, develop and oversee safety initiatives and projects, including delegating health and safety projects to the Safety & Security Supervisors and conduct ongoing monitoring to ensure progress and completion
- Oversee the contractor compliance and clearance program for all construction and maintenance activities, including renovations and new builds across the campus and new ventures outside the normal campus footprint
- Attend all construction meetings to ensure Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulation compliance
- Conduct regular construction site inspections and perform job hazard analysis; provide recommendations to Site Supervisor and Project Management team
- Working with the Director, S,S&CO, administer the design, implementation and maintenance of the University’s health and safety programs (e.g. Hazardous Materials Management, hearing conversation, medical monitoring, first aid and CPR) to maintain safe work practices in all departments and meet health and safety legislative requirements
- Act as advisor to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), including booking rooms and preparing and distributing agendas, minutes and other documents
- Work closely with the Director, S,S&CO, and Co-Chairs of the JHSC to follow up on Committee action items, including conducting regular workplace inspections to identify workplace hazards, developing and maintaining safety supplies inventories, ensuring first aid kits are inspected and maintained, and carrying out health and safety related initiatives
- In conjunction with the Director, S,S&CO, develop and maintain a safety training program that entails a training matrix for each position, organizing for or developing training, conducting training, and maintaining training records as required
- In conjunction with Manager, Studio Services, coordinate health and safety training and orientation for students, student monitors and employees, including WHMIS, first-aid, and general health and safety awareness, and ensuring appropriate documentation of such activities
- Under the direction of the Director, S,S&CO, conduct research on health and safety and emergency preparedness issues
- Make recommendations to the Director, S,S&CO on new and revised University policies, procedures, work methods and standards covering health and safety related matters
- Coordinate and provide environmental health and safety consultation and guidance within the OCAD U community
- Conduct safety and environmental audits, surveys, inspections, ergonomic assessments, and analyses of work facilities, equipment, practices and methods noting loss experience/potential and corrective actions required; liaise with Human Resources in relation to ergonomic assessments and recommendations as required
- When required, provide leadership and assistance in the conducting of accident/incident investigations and work refusal investigations
- Administer the University’s Chemical Management Program, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS, i.e. material safety data sheets, workplace labels, training, etc.)
- In the absence of the Director, S,S&CO report to the Manager, Security Services, represent the University to external representatives (i.e. Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, Public Services Health & Safety Association, Workers Health & Safety Centre etc.)
- Participate in special projects or committees as assigned by the Director, S,S&CO
- Maintain venues for Occupational Health & Safety communication, including safety boards and the S&SS web page
- Provide administrative support to the Director, S,S&CO and Manager S&SS, including scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate filing and database systems, photocopying, faxing, typing reports and correspondence, and ordering office equipment and supplies
- Assist the Manager, S&SS and Director, S,S&CO in other related activities contributing to the successful operation of the S,S&CO office

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education specializing in any of the following disciplines: Occupational Health & Safety, Ergonomics, Engineering, or Industrial Hygiene, or other related degree
- A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in the development and delivery of workplace safety and health initiatives and programs in an industrial or corporate setting
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through
