The Communications Specialist plans, develops, coordinates, and implements both external and internal communications relating to the Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (TREKK) Knowledge Mobilization Network (trekk.ca) and its members. TREKK was founded in 2011 to accelerate the speed at which the latest evidence in children's emergency care is put into practice within emergency departments across Canada. Part of this role (0.25FTE) will also support communications for the Pediatric Outcome Improvement through Coordination of Research Networks (POPCORN) platform, which aims to prepare Canadian child health researchers and their networks to respond rapidly and cohesively to the current and future pandemics or to any child health issues of importance, This includes media relations, e-newsletters, website, liaising with research partners, and the creation of promotional print and digital materials. The role will be a based at the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) which is home to the TREKK's administration center and reports to the Executive Director of TREKK.

**This position can be remote.**

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
- Works with TREKK Management to develop corporate communications strategy.
- Creates and executes communications strategies for specific events, programs, and projects
- Develops compelling written stories to highlight researchers, publications, and events on website, blog and social.
- Plan and create content to follow editorial calendar on social media, analyzing and interpreting metrics.
- Maintain and update website content
- Media support for creation of press releases, PSAs, facilitates interviews, organizes press conferences and liaises with media on both a regular, ad hoc, and event specific basis.
- Develops the creative look with experience in current technologies such as InDesign and Illustrator and produces promotional items such as posters, brochures, digital ads, etc.
- Experience in the creation of digital content such as video and infographics and use of major graphic design tools.
- Other duties may be assigned.

**Education and/or Experience**:

- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in French and English required
- Graduate of a recognized program in communications, advertising, and/or public relations
- Combination of education and/or experience will be considered
- Minimum 3 - 5 years directly related experience, preferably in a not-for-profit, research environment and/or health care setting.
- Experience in leading communication initiatives, acting with integrity and trust.
- Poficient knowledge of MS Office computer programs as well as desktop publishing and website design.
- Strong technical skills and proven ability to use a variety of design, animation and video editing software including Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in video creation and editing is an asset.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment, communicating clearly in a fast-paced environment essential.
- Proven skill in writing, editing and strategic media and communication planning.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff at all levels within the organization.

This is a part-time (0.5 EFT) term position, covering a maternity leave. Hours may include evenings and weekends
