**Chinese Interpreter/Demonstrator**

Heritage Park is looking for Chinese or Chinese-Canadian applicants interested in interpreting the history and culture of Chinese immigration and lived experience in Calgary and Southern Alberta for our many park visitors for the summer and fall season. Under the direction of the Exhibit Lead Hands, this position will interpret a Heritage Park exhibit to the public through a variety of techniques and demonstrations.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Delivers programs to engage the public using techniques that include living history demonstrations, stationed interpretation, informal guided tours, role acting, and storytelling;
- Educates and engages the public in the history of Chinese immigration and lived experience during the late 1800s and early 1900s using storytelling and other interpretive techniques;
- Works as part of a team of interpreters in period appropriate clothing in our Wing Chong Laundry and other relevant exhibits, portraying daily life;
- Leads guests in hands-on activities;
- Prepares sites and materials and ensures proper care of associated artifacts;
- Provides customer service and information to guests in a friendly manner; and
- Performs other duties as required.

**Education and Experience**:

- Completion of some high school. Post-secondary education in related areas (Western Canadian History, historical interpretation, communications) would be an asset;
- Previous experience in historical interpretation, customer service, or tourism would be an asset.

**Skills**:

- Comfortable engaging public in programs and speaking to visitors of all ages and backgrounds;
- Strong verbal communication skills and public relations skills;
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations; and
- Capable of working well independently and as part of a peer group team.

**Special Clothing and Equipment**:

- Appropriate costuming will be provided by Heritage Park;
- Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.

**Special Working Conditions**:

- This position will require the incumbent to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time and requires work in non-climate controlled environments

**Hours of Work**:

- Full-time hours available mid-May to Labour Day, with weekend work during September and October (until Thanksgiving), part-time hours also available throughout the season;
- Schedule varies and will include weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.
