**Position Description**:
The Clinical Research Coordinator works closely with the Principal Investigator and the research team led by the program’s Research Project Manager to conduct research activities related to interventional clinical trials and prospective registries. This includes day-to-day operations of on-going studies, and development of new projects. In addition, they develops close working relationships with the medical and health care professional staff who provide clinical care to the study patients, both at the SickKids and other institutions.
**Protocol Related**:
- Review of study protocols and prepare protocols for use.
- Organize science reviews, and track deadlines.
- Keep records of regulations and policies governing clinical research and communicate to staff and research team members. (e.g., Tri-council Policy Statement, ICH Guidelines, Good Clinical Practices, and Health Canada and FDA regulations).
- Develop informed consent documents based on regulations, REB consent templates and institutional requirements. Submit to REB; follow up on queries and changes. Prepare annual follow up for resubmission, make and submit changes based on protocol amendments as required.
- Develop study binders for clinical program and study team use, and ensure they are kept up to date.
- Participate in audits, site visits and monitoring by SickKids and other regulatory bodies.
- Participates in database entry.
- Develop and monitor timelines for existing studies, balancing the demands of multiple projects. Develop and maintain database of current studies and their status.
- In Multi-center trials, help conduct the overall study, including participation in selection, training, monitoring and ongoing communication with other studies
**Research Subject Related**
- Monitor serious adverse events or drug reactions, and report to Principal Investigator. Follow-up on adverse events, including filing reports with internal and external regulatory bodies (REB), notification of collaborators, and/or patients.
- Oversee recruitment and patient contacts.
**Human Resources / Financial**
- Encourage and foster collaborative relationships with healthcare team at SickKids, other participating centers and government and community agencies.
- Actively participate in departmental/program meetings or rounds to acquire and disseminate knowledge and to profile clinical research.
- Develop in-services on study requirements.
**Education / Experience Required**:
- A minimum of three years’ experience in clinical trials preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Health Science, or a related field.
- A clinical professional degree would be an asset, as would certification as a clinical research associate (e.g., SOCRA accreditation).
**Special Skills/ Aptitudes Required**
- Function independently yet collaboratively within a team.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, facilitation and project management skills.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
