Early Childhood Assistant

**Assistant Educators**
This position is directly accountable to the Supervisor of Junior Hub Child Care &
Learning Centre (JHCCLC)
**Responsibilities to the Children**
1. Develop and implements a program for learning through active participation and positive interaction with staff, other children and materials by:
- Supervising and guiding children in their physical, social, cognitive, emotional and language development in accordance with the philosophy of the child care;
- Working with children in groups and individually to develop their interests and abilities; and
- Providing and ensuring a safe, happy, warm, and stimulating environment.
1. Plan in accordance with JHCCLC in order to facilitate play based learning activities that will stimulate a child’s natural curiosity.
2. Develop and implement a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and that meets or exceeds the expectations of How Does Learning Happen.
3. Consult with the educator team on a regular basis regarding program and planning expectations.
4. Supervise the children in various activities such as but not limited to dressing and washroom; and supervise children during play keeping in mind global observation and giving top priority to health and safety.
5. Assist in the preparation of and attendance and participation in all extracurricular events/activities (i.e. Open House and Professional Development Workshops etc.).
6. Responsible for keeping updated records on all children including observations, daily log, accident/incident, daily health observations and attendance. Assist with documentation of registration and applicable Child Care forms upon entry, regular observations and after any incidents. Participation and willingness to work with
Himama electronic tracking system.
7. Responsible for referral letters or progress updates upon request (with Director’s approval).
8. Responsible for compliance to all Policies and Procedures and the Child Care and
Early Years Act.
9. Record and report any parent communication regarding a child to the Supervisor.
10. Work cooperatively with any referral agencies, licensing bodies etc., and attend any meetings or workshops as required.
11. Provide input for educator
- parent interviews and attend when necessary.
12. Be responsible for reporting to the Supervisor or Designate all and any hazardous conditions or unsafe equipment, which may need repair or replacing. This will assist management with the monthly “Health and Safety Inspections” of the Child Care.
13. Work in conjunction with the Supervisor, to ensure and monitor that all program objectives are met, as outlined in the program curriculum.
**Responsibilities to the Parents**
1. Establish positive and professional parent/educator relationships and maintain regular contact with every parent in conjunction with the Supervisor. All relevant information concerning a child is shared between the educator team and the
Supervisor or Designate and at the discretion of the Supervisor, is forwarded to the
Board of Directors,
2. Maintain confidentiality of Child Care records and all relevant information pertaining to children and families.
3. Coordinate, instruct and supervise assisting parents (i.e. parent volunteer’s/parent reps) and provide written directives as to their expected duties.
**Responsibilities to the Child Care Centre**
1. Follow and respect the Child Care’s philosophy
2. Represent the centre professionally.
3. Maintain a positive, professional and cooperative working environment with educator team, Supervisor, Designate, Board of Directors, parents and children, student teachers, volunteers and any guest at our Centre.
4. Assist with the responsibility for the preparation, organization and maintenance of all
School areas including but not limited to:
- Maintaining an orderly and tidy school;
- Setting up class rooms and preparing indoor/outdoor playground areas;
- Cleaning of toys and equipment in accordance with set schedule;
- Equipping and tidying of cupboards and other activity/play areas;
- Keeping an inventory of materials; and
- Informing Supervisor of materials to purchase and of equipment repairs/replacements etc.
5. Uphold the standards and policies of Little Miracles, Child Care and Early Years Act, and be aware and implement any changes passed on to you by the Supervisor or
Board of Directors.
6. Keep certification of First Aid & CPR-C up to date. Providing any updates or changes to the Supervisor.
7. Attend, be prepared for and participate in all meetings such as staff, parent/ educator, resource meetings.
8. Participate in a bi-annual Positive Guidance evaluation and program evaluation with the Supervisor
9. With the use of written resources, relevant workshops and the sharing of information continue to grow in the field of Early Childhood Education. Must attend a minimum of two professional development courses annually.
