**Role**:
We are looking for a qualified professional with strong project management experience to lead a team of professionals responsible for the conservation, maintenance, and environmental management of historic places owned and administered by the department.

The Manager of Conservation and Construction Services is responsible for and oversees the administration, planning, development, and implementation of documentation, maintenance, preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, construction, and environmental management of historic resources owned by the department to ensure their on-going conservation. Ensuring the conservation and accessibility of these historic resources are among the Heritage Division's core business objectives. The position directs a diverse group of technical, professional, and administrative staff to deliver project management services for complex heritage conservation, capital infrastructure, and environmental management projects. Additionally, the position fulfils a number of essential duties related to wider branch and divisional goals and objectives.

**Qualifications**:
A university graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by at least four years of progressively responsible experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. Expert knowledge of at least one of: architecture, engineering, historic resource management, heritage preservation technology.

Preferences/Assets:

- Knowledge of historic resources management principles, practices, and legislation at the municipal, provincial and federal levels as well as in other Canadian provinces/territories and in other countries.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in a wide variety of heritage conservation activities such as preliminary assessment of historical significance, analysis of historic resources, research, measured drawings, schematic and developed designs, and conservation management.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with procurement, contracting, and financial policies and procedures with an emphasis on services and supplies contract management.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the federal and Alberta building codes, _Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Historical Resources Act, the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada_, and labour laws.
- Expert knowledge of traditional and modern building materials, fabrication practices, trades, and construction techniques.
- General knowledge of the range of disciplines involved in the management of historic resources, such as archaeology, history, architectural history, and heritage conservation.
- Demonstrated success leading staff and working with all levels of government, professionals, and the public.
- Strong leadership, planning, project management, consultation, and organizational skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication and listening skills. Ability to explain complex concepts and situations in plain language.
