**Job summary**
The Economist will be responsible for conducting economic research and data analysis on issues related to the province of Ontario, provide written reports, and support the organization.
**What can I expect to do in this role?**: Responsibilities
- ** Team work.** Regular and ongoing collaboration with a team of economists, exchanging advice and supporting each other's projects.
- **Research.** Identify and investigate trends in the Ontario economy, demographic developments, and local or global issues that may affect Ontario's economic performance.
- ** Analysis. **Evaluate Ontario's budgets, including revenues and fiscal sustainability measures. Produce economic and fiscal forecasts using internal models and statistical analysis.
- ** Learning.** Contribute to the development of existing models and databases, find new sources of information, and develop new analytical tools.
- Writing. Produce clearly written public reports on the economy, Ontario's budget outlook and other current public policy issues.
- ** Communication. **Participate in briefings to Members of Provincial Parliament and the media, and provide internal advice to other members of the FAO.

**To qualify you must have**:
- A graduate degree (Master's or Doctorate) from a recognized university with a specialization in economics or an equivalent graduate-level designation.
- Strong knowledge of theories, concepts and research techniques of economics, socio-economics, demographics, geopolitical developments, taxation, and public finance.
- Experience in using public data sources to conduct economic/financial analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to sense the needs of others and offer support.
- The ability to produce high-quality, concise, and clearly written material for non-technical audiences.
- Skilled at communicating and presenting complex issues to diverse groups.
**Additional assets**:
- 1 -2 years experience conducting research and analysis of economic or fiscal policy issues, undertaking economic or budget forecasting, or public policy analysis.
- Experience with statistical programs such as R, SPSDM, Eviews for econometric modelling, forecasting and database management.
- Strong motivation to take on a wide variety of tasks and a willingness to solve technical problems as they emerge.
FAO reports are used by Members of Provincial Parliament in policy discussions, as well as by government officials and the public to inform decisions made about Ontario's future.
