Position Summary
Reporting to the Registrar & CEO (RCEO), the Chief Professional Sustainability Officer (CPSO), provides strategic leadership for a wide range of member services in the Professional Sustainability (PS) Division of APEGA. The position is the organization’s most senior role in serving the needs of 70,000 members and 4700 permit holders, and various stakeholders in primarily a non-statutory capacity through leadership and direction to over 40 staff and 3 direct reports with budgetary responsibilities.
This role is also responsible for ensuring strong collaboration between the Professional Sustainability Division and the Regulatory Division as it provides significant services that the Regulatory Division relies on to carry out its mandate (e.g., communications, career development, membership service support, events and member recognition, equity diversity & inclusion, outreach and product services). This role also is responsible for developing strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including provincial post-secondary educational institutions, and K-12 education groups.
The CPSO is a key member of the APEGA’s Executive Team and expected to provide strategic input and recommendations. This role is also utilized by the RCEO as a resource around significant national association issues (e.g., Engineers Canada, Geoscientists Canada, etc.).

**Responsibilities**:

- Leadership and Oversight of the Professional Sustainability Division:

- Oversight of research on best practices, additional service, and product offerings, with a view to strengthening and growing services, programs and building an even more relevant professional sustainability division.
- Oversee the planning and execution of the PS strategic business plan and provide leadership, development and guidance support to the PS team.
- Develop and monitor budgets and fiscal plans in line with the APEGA’s fiscal framework for the division.
- Practice effective leadership of people by attracting, engaging, developing, coaching, growing and retaining a strong, high performing team.
- Ensures that programs and services are focused on the continued growth, engagement and wellbeing of the profession today and into the future.
- Oversight and direction of all membership service-related programs, policies, and best practices.
- Oversight of brand, communications and external relations functions critical to strong reputation management.
- Oversight of outreach and product services ensuring value for members in outreach services and product offerings (e.g., affinity programs, diversity, and inclusion programs, etc.).
- Key responsibility is ensuring a wide reach in connecting with members across the province and supporting branch activities with the ultimate objective of increasing engagement.
- This also includes a diversity and inclusion portfolio with a key focus on increasing women in the profession.
- The role is also responsible for ensuring engagement with a broader external stakeholder group (e.g., the public and other stakeholders) and to promote the profession of engineering and geoscience across a wide network (K-12, universities, community organizations etc.).
- The role oversees the provision of front-line services to address member inquiries.
- Oversight of member recognition and events programs.
- Oversight of career services including the salary survey, and professional development coordination.
- Ensures programs are developed and executed that focus on nurturing potential future members, including key external stakeholders, provincial post-secondary educational institutions, and K-12 education groups.
- Executive Team and Committees and Broad Organizational Initiatives
- As part of the Executive Team, provide thought leadership on APEGA’s strategic direction and business plan.
- Provide recommendations and actively engage on APEGA’s Executive Team to support the RCEO’s strategic and operational objectives and activities.
- Develop, collaborate, coordinate and support APEGA’s planning activities including business performance metrics for the Division.
