We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Geomatics Officer with the Corporate Services Department.
Under the general direction of the Manager, Asset Management & GIS, the Geomatics Officer is responsible for providing Geomatics services to all departments within the City of Yellowknife by producing cartographic products, creating and maintaining spatial data, ensuring data integrity, and participating in a wide variety of cross-departmental projects. This position is also responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS). This position works closely with the System Analyst - Asset Management & GIS to provide a high caliber of customer service.
This position requires the incumbent to have a university degree or technology diploma in a relevant discipline (i.e. Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or Engineering), and a valid NWT Class 5 driver's license. The knowledge required to perform the position is typically gained by having a minimum of three years of related experience performing the following types of tasks:
- Developing cartographic and data products using ESRI and Adobe mapping products;
- working with relational and spatial databases (i.e. ArcSDE, Microsoft SQL Server), and SQL language scripting;
- conducting ArcGIS Server administration;
- collecting GPS data using tools such as Leica/ESRI Fieldmaps;
- manipulating and converting data using FME;
- using UAV technology to collect spatial data and imagery.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $79,965 - $95,558 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and travel allowances, and a defined benefit pension plan.
