The Vice President of Programs is part of the senior management team and reports directly to the President of JA Nova Scotia. In this role, the VP of Programs develops and executes organizational strategies in program delivery and drives the overall programmatic direction for the organization. The VP will use their experience and expertise to develop effective business, operations, and evaluative plans for the Program Department and manage the program Team to excellence in program delivery and evaluative efforts.

**CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

The position requires a highly organized, deadline-driven, confident, go-getting networker who delivers results. The VP Program is self-driven, requires mínimal direction, and is a leader keen to take the initiative and make positive change as JA delivers on our mission to provide young people with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their dreams and succeed in their communities.

Programs
- Translate strategic plans into operational program action plans and provide leadership for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating educational programs and initiatives.
- Sets individual and programmatic goals for the Program Team and ensures achievement of metrics monthly.
- Manage partnerships with key stakeholders and the broader community by delivering presentations to support strategic growth in existing and new schools, school districts, and the business community as needed.
- Develop new volunteer training programs and ensure accurate record keeping of all volunteer information within JA's database.
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and that all department programs operate consistently and ethically within JA's mission and core values.
- Directly manage a small number of high-level JA programs, which serve as an entry point to deeper engagement with the organization.

Team Management
- Recruit, train, develop and coach the very best talent for the department and implement a system to evaluate the skills, experience, and professional development needs of all staff.
- Work with staff to develop objective performance measurements and ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all team members.
- Maintain accountability among team members by modelling tight oversight of individual and organizational performance standards and ensuring that excellence is the norm.

Evaluation
- Work with Development and Operations teams to support grant/funding deliverables (data, photos, etc.).
- Gather significant sampling of constituent feedback to support the effectiveness and impact of programming.
- Manage evaluation collection efforts and analyze data to inform business practices, including stewardship, partnership growth and critical decision-making.
- Proficiency with benchmarking data tied to goals and strategies and assuming responsibility for data integrity and privacy.

Resource Development
- In partnership with the Development department, establish stewardship systems to align all strategies and ensure efficiency, accountability, and profitability across contractual and voluntary partnerships.

Requirements of the position may include travel throughout the province and some evening and weekend work. A valid driver's license and access to a car is a requirement, as is travelling Nova Scotia's roadways year-round. A clear, full police record and vulnerable populations check are prerequisites for this position.

**WHAT YOU WILL BRING**
- Bachelor's degree and/or substantial experience in a program management role with development, delivery, and evaluation experience
- Experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Experience in change management and organizational growth, including creating team cohesiveness
- A successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, coaching and mentoring, and developing an infrastructure that creates a more robust and more efficient organization
- A consummate team player with a flexible and creative approach
- Excellent communication and coalition-building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; high level of knowledge and understanding, especially as it relates to program delivery, connecting programs to funding, creatively generating other resources, and building strategic partnerships
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to JA Nova Scotia's mission

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**

The salary band for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 based on a 40-hour work week paid bi-weekly. Additional benefits include Health and wellness benefits, paid company holidays, employee assistance programs and professional development.
