Arrow Wood Games is more than just a game store - it’s a place where community and play come together. Since opening in November 2023, our locally-owned shop has been dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages. From board games and puzzles to trading cards and RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, we offer a wide range of fun and engaging products. And some real magic happens in our event space, where we host exciting programs like kids’ camps, board game nights, learn-to-play workshops, paint nights, and birthday parties. At Arrow Wood Games, the goal is simple: create lasting memories through the joy of gaming.

**About the Role**

As an Events Host at Arrow Wood Games, you will be the face of some of our Games Room events, ensuring that every guest feels welcome and has a fun, memorable experience. You will manage the setup, hosting, and cleanup of events while keeping the energy positive and creating an inclusive environment for everyone.

Given the broad variety of events we host (from kids’ birthday parties to corporate team building to Dungeons & Dragons), we are interested in bringing in a few people who might only be interested in hosting particular types of events.

Some experience with a variety of tabletop games is an asset. Your positive attitude, ability to connect with people, dedication, and work ethic matter even more

This is a casual position, with hours varying week to week depending on our event schedule. While there may not be shifts every week, you will be notified of upcoming events well in advance. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when events occur is required.

What you’ll do in this role:

- Maintain a professional demeanor and serve as a role model for both staff and customers
- Foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive atmosphere for participants of all ages, ensuring every guest has a positive experience
- Collaborate with the Arrow Wood team to plan and coordinate event activities, logistics, and specific details, ensuring smooth event execution
- Prepare the Games Room for events: deep cleaning, arranging furniture, preparing materials, and putting up decorations
- Lead and facilitate games, explain rules to participants, and offer guidance as needed
- Ensure events stay on track by managing time effectively and leading smooth transitions between activities
- Proactively resolve any issues during events, such as missing materials, technical difficulties, unexpected changes, or participant concerns, ensuring mínimal disruptions
- Tidy and reset the Games Room post-event, ensuring the space is ready for the next event
- Collaborate with the team to improve events and enhance customer engagement

- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, and the ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Friendly, approachable, and can adapt your style to the needs of each customer
- Experience leading activities or groups, whether with children or adults, demonstrating your ability to engage and motivate others.
- Solid understanding of a variety of tabletop games, or a strong desire and capacity to learn quickly
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, stay calm under pressure, and adapt to changing needs
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), and the ability to communicate complex game concepts easily
- Basic computer skills with the ability to use digital tools for tasks such as attendance lists and communication

Must meet these basic requirements:

- Stand or walk for long periods
- Move up and down ladders
- Lift up to 20 pounds
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends

Preferred but not required:

- Previous event experience
- Experience with popular games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, 7 Wonders, Codenames, or similar titles is a plus
- Knowledge of D&D or other role playing games
- Experience working with children (for some of our programs)

Other details:

- Compensation: $18-23/hour
