**Job Synopsis**
- The Thrift Shop Manager has overall responsibility for the day-today operation of the Thrift Shop, (retail and warehouse) and will oversee the supervision of all Thrift Shop staff and volunteers daily. This is a hands-on management position and the Manager must be prepared to fill in as required at every level of the Shop retail and warehouse operations. The Thrift Shop Manager reports and is accountable to the MCCA Manager of Social Enterprise and the Edmonton Thrift Shop Council, and to the policies agreed to by the Operations Council executive.

- FINANCIAL
- Banking and bookkeeping
- Training volunteers who want to operate the cash register
- Prepare monthly reports for the Board
- Prepare long term plans, budgets with the Board
- Keep Council chair informed of problems, concerns
- Attend Council meetings to report on activities, progress in implementing objectives and participate in discussions relating to Store Operations
MERCHANDISING and MARKETING
- Organizing the sales floor and merchandize of the shop to create interest and maximize sales
- Manage the volunteers working on the floor
- In consultation with the Associate Manager, develop special sale days and events
- Ensure appropriate signage for customers regarding shop hours, holiday closings, special sales, etc.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
- Manage and process inventory from the back door to the floor
- Determine when to accept donations, if required, always seeking to maximize amount of donations accepted
- Determine what kind of donations are accepted and keep it posted by the intake door
- Oversee sorting, pricing and storage of inventory
- Manage pricing book and making revisions as required
- Manage quality control of stock on sales floor with regular culling of merchandise
- Arrange and manage space in the sorting room, and storage rooms
- Arrange special workdays as needed for cleaning, culling and other periodic requirements
- Oversee volunteers working the back in consultation with Associate Manager as required

OTHER DUTIES
- Ensure the Thrift Shop is open for business as scheduled
- Ensure the shop is neat, clean and attractive
- Liaise with building management regarding maintenance and repairs of the building
- Show an appreciation to volunteers and recognition for good ideas
- Ensure safety standards for customers and volunteers are met
- Schedule volunteers, or staff for the cash register
- Ensure Thrift Shop Board policies are followed
- Prepare monthly reports which address sales relative to budget, progress in implementation of objectives, and other issues that should be brought to attention of the Board

GENERAL:

- Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and lead devotions as required
- Attend MCC functions (i.e. Relief sale, annual general meeting, golf tournaments) as required and represent MCC values and missions to donors, constituents and the general public when handling general inquires
- Act with integrity, reflecting Christian respect for those we serve, including volunteers, customers and donors.
- Share the news about the thrift shop and network in the community by attending and being actively involved in constituency churches.
