Reporting to the Senior Research Manager, Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), and functionally reporting to the Departmental Director, Site Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Division Head, Maternal Fetal Medicine at BC Women’s Hospital (BCWH), the Research Projects Manager plans, coordinates and manages the research program of the BCWH Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Working through the WHRI, this position facilitates the management of individual studies from the planning and implementation to the evaluation stage, including developing and maintaining budgets and monitoring expenditures. The Research Projects Manager provides assistance in the recruitment of research support personnel and provides training and management to research support personnel and trainees. The position also develops and maintains effective working relationship within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (including both PHSA and UBC stakeholders), the Women’s Health Research Institute, BC Women’s Hospital and across external stakeholders. Experience with research management and/or coordination within a clinical trials environment is strongly desired. Note that this position’s work location is in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.

What you’ll do

Assist with the training and management of all levels of personnel and trainees (fellows, residents, graduate and undergraduate students) within the parameters of the research program as necessary.
Ensure all job descriptions within area of responsibility clarify and delineate position expectations. Complete performance reviews and facilitate individual goal setting and development sessions for staff.
Liaise with BC Children’s & Women’s Hospitals and UBC Ethics Committees to determine status of concurrent research approvals and assist investigators in resolving related issues as needed.

What you bring

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in a Health or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an academic health care organization or related industry including experience with research practices and clinical trials administration.

You will also have

Knowledge of medical, clinical and research terminology.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload and work under time pressures to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently, collaboratively to resolve issues, and to be flexible to meet and adapt to changes in organizational priorities.
Analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment within a range of established alternatives.
