**Position Summary**
The Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services (CALCS) at Centennial College is hiring a Counsellor to support mental health and accessible learning among a diverse student population. Reporting to the Director, Equitable Learning, Health and Wellness, the successful incumbent will provide counselling support to students accessing the Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services. The Counsellor will engage in a range of mental health and accessibility supports in a psychotherapeutic environment, including: conducting initial assessments of student need through intake appointments, providing counselling supports through brief, goal-oriented, single-session approaches; providing longer term counselling for students with complex mental health or accessibility needs; co-creating Individualized Student Profiles and academic accommodations in collaboration with students and faculty; and providing crisis interventions and case management including campus and community referrals. The incumbent will serve students within a multi-campus institution through in-person and virtual supports to support broader efforts to enhance wellness and accessibility through provision of psychoeducation groups and workshops, faculty consultations, and training / development opportunities.

**Responsibilities**
- Supports assessment of student needs through robust and validated intake assessment tools related to mental health and accessibility
- Assesses functional abilities and limitations of students with disabilities in a postsecondary academic setting; interprets medical documentation and psychoeducational assessments in building individualized student profiles and accessible learning plans; works with faculty, administrators, and other educational professionals in supporting accessibility and student accommodations.
- Provides goal-oriented, brief counselling supports and interventions from student intake through referrals and ongoing 1-1 psychotherapeutic supports.
- Establishes strong working relationships among CALCS colleagues, faculty, and campus and community partners who will be part of collaborative care teams supporting a range of student needs.
- Co-creates personalized care plans with students, which equip students with the tools they need to manage their health and wellness through self-management strategies, referral to a range of campus services (e.g., financial services, career services, success advisors, etc.), plans for ongoing support through CALCS, tools and resources, and referrals to community services.
- Responds to and leads the management of student mental health / accessibility-related crisis situations where appropriate and when called upon.
- Completes risk assessments and safety plans with students presenting with suicide risk; provides timely intervention, safety planning, support and referrals as required.
- Facilitates bridging and referrals for students who require complex or specialized supports through local community and health services.
- Consults with faculty and develops resources / training sessions for educational teams on counselling and accessibility related issues.
- Attends counselling team meetings and participates in case discussions
- Consults with college stakeholders such as the Emergency Management and Public Safety Team, Case Management Care Team, and senior leadership to provide mental health and accessibility-related expertise and case-specific advice as appropriate and necessary.
- Delivers counselling from a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens, with sensitivity to ethno-cultural, religious, sexual orientation and gender issues, which arise in counselling/teaching situations.
