**Counsellor**
**(28 hours per week - to January 2024)**

**Job Posting**

**Purpose of Position**:To assist women in transition to move towards emotional and economic independence and freedom from violence, while contributing to their communities.

**Accountability**: Reports to the Executive Director, Scarborough Women’s Centre

**Program**:

- Provide formal, professional counselling to women in transition, dealing with abuse, isolation, emotional health, trauma, newcomer integration and other barriers to well
- being and success
- Conduct intake interviews with women to determine what programs at the Centre or in the community would be appropriate to their needs
- Develop a plan with the woman that addresses her own goals for change.
- Provide solution-focused and/or cognitive behavioural counselling and ongoing support
- Liaise with other agencies on behalf of clients
- Match clients with volunteer mentors and tutors in the 1:1 program when appropriate
- Monitor and supervise mentoring/tutoring matches
- Uphold professional ethics and procedures of counselling
- Follow safe work practices
- Assists the Executive Director to support placement students achieve their learning goals
- Contributes articles to the agency newsletter

**Administrative**:

- Track participant results and outcomes, using a customized Salesforce database
- Maintain professional case files and case notes
- Work collaboratively with other professional and support staff
- Maintain appropriate systems for the program
- Help promote the counselling program to referral agents and community members
- Attend regular staff meetings, Counselling team meetings and individual supervision meetings

**Working conditions**:

- Based at Scarborough Women’s Centre. We are currently working in a hybrid format, using a VoIP phone system and Cisco Webex web conferencing with service users, and hope to welcome visitors to the Centre in Spring 2023
- $31.00 per hour salary, minus deductions taken at source for CRA
- Eligible for benefits package covering life insurance, LTD, extended health and prescriptions following 3 months of employment.
- Contract ends January 31st, 2024 - with possibility for extension contingent on funding

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 5 years related experience
- Formal training required (e.g. BSW, MSW)
- Flexible, responsible, diligent, well organized, creative
- Deep familiarity with violence against women issues and cross cultural practice
- Inclusive practice, mindful of the inter-section of gender with race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and other diversities.
- Uphold professional ethics and procedures of counselling
- Follow safe work practices
- Training in working with people who’ve experienced trauma
- Committed to women’s independence
- A self-starter who is able to work in a team and independently
