Comox Golf Club - Job Posting for First Cook
Comox Golf Club is seeking a skilled and experienced First Cook to head up our Clubhouse Restaurant’s small team of cooks and serving staff. This is a full-time permanent position. Reporting to the clubhouse manager, you will be the lead for organizing the kitchen, leading day-to-day operations, training team members, and maintaining effective cost and quality controls - plus you’ll the opportunity to show off your culinary flare by creating dishes for the daily menu, specials, and banquets.

Hourly: $24 - $26 per hour
**Responsibilities**:
**Food Preparation**: Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, ensuring that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the recipes, portioning, cooking, and serving standards.
Banquet experience would be a plus.
**Menu Creation**: Collaborate with the Clubhouse Manager to develop new and innovative menu items in keeping with customer preferences and within food cost objectives. Collaborate with customers in development of banquet and special function menus.
**Restaurant Operations**: Oversee and manage kitchen and serving staff operations during shifts, ensuring smooth workflow, and maintaining clean and organized workspaces, storage spaces and dining spaces.
**Inventory Management**: Select appropriates suppliers. Monitor food and beverage supplies and ingredients and maintain PAR (Periodic Automatic Replacement) levels. Placing orders as needed and controlling food wastage. Ensure all products are received according to product specifications and in correct unit count and condition.
**Financial Management**: Manage daily sales, receipts and expenses in accordance with established policies and procedures. With the clubhouse manager and Board, assess profitability by monitoring revenues and expenses and modify procedures and prices as required.
**Staff management**: Schedule labour as required by anticipated customer volume while making sure that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labour cost objectives are met. Make employment and termination decisions including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and disciplining kitchen and serving personnel as needed. Oversee training of new kitchen employees.
**Team Leadership**: Motivate kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and constructive feedback to promote a positive and efficient work atmosphere.
**Customer Management**:Handle customer enquiries and complaints. Along with the clubhouse manager manage the event/function calendar and bookings.
**Safety and Sanitation**: Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring compliance with local health regulations. Oversee the training of kitchen personnel in safe operation of all kitchen equipment and utensils and in cleanliness and sanitation practices. Responsible for maintaining appropriate cleaning schedules for kitchen floors, mats, walls, hoods, other equipment, and food storage areas.
**Requirements**:
**Culinary Expertise**: Proven experience as a First Cook or similar role, with a solid understanding of various cooking techniques and cuisines.
**Team Player**: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and other departments.
**Leadership Skills**: Proven experience as a chef/cook and manager leading a team and managing kitchen operations effectively.
**Creativity**: Demonstrated passion for culinary arts, with the ability to come up with unique and appealing dishes.
**Adaptability**: Capable of handling high-pressure situations and adapting to changing priorities in a fast
- paced kitchen environment.
**Flexibility**: During the busy months (May through September) be prepared to be work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support our customers' dining needs.
**Food Safety Knowledge**: Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
**Software**: Good understanding of useful computer programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS) an asset.
**Certification**: A culinary diploma or certificate from an accredited institution is preferred but not mandatory. Advanced Food Safe Certification. Serve It Right, First Aid Certificate is an asset.
**Physical Stamina**: The role requires standing for extended periods and lifting heavy objects.
