**Shift Time**:10:30am - 7:00pm

**Job Summary**:
The Lab Technician is responsible to work with the team to produce quality edged and mounted work thru various stations, including tracing, tinting, layout, blocking, edging, mounting and repairs, drill mount, and final (QA) inspection. They are also responsible for preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment according to the provided schedule.

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Standardization**
- Performs Quality Inspection on all Jobs to ensure conformance to C-HIQS standards and Job Order specifications prior to shipment from the Laboratory to the Customer. Full inspection of eyewear could include a check of lenses post surfacing, wash up, alignment, and cosmetic and optical check of completed eyewear.
- Produce quality eyewear through utilizing the Quality guidelines:

- Inspect uncut lenses against cosmetic and optical standards
- Finish layout and blocking
- Tracing a frame/pattern, as well as reprocess order, attaching pattern and verifying all information
- Edge lenses into frames, with proper bevel placement, groove position and sizing. Care taken to preserve condition of new and customer’s own frames. Proper frame alignment must be maintained
- tinting and UV coating to patient specifications and HOYA standards, understanding availability and options
- Grooving
- Drilling
- creating and saving formulas, proper drill assembly for plug and screw mount
- Safety monogramming and mounting.
- Communicates results of any jobs that do not meet Standards to Lab Lead and Management to support the rectification of manufacturing process issues or problems resulting in product breakage or non-conformance to specifications.
- Responsible for basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory tools and equipment using established maintenance procedures and calendars.

**Product/Technical Knowledge**
- Strives to improve technical knowledge daily and continually applies that knowledge in the production of all eyewear.
- Utilizes product knowledge to determine the best manufacturing process for routine and special orders to produce top quality eyewear.
- Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume.
- Is attentive to detail with all measurements, calculations, equipment settings and defective product.
- Takes the initiative to notice and follow-up on discrepancies; suggests improvements; recommends solutions and does what is necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Operates the system inputting all lab statistics with accuracy and attention to detail.

- Complies with all safety/regulatory requirements ensuring supplies/chemicals are stored and used per chemical safety program. Keeps management informed of potential safety opportunities (ie. broken tiles, equipment, etc.)

- Knowledge of HOYA products

**Education**
- good knowledge of English an asset
- High School Graduate /GED or equivalent experience

**Work Experience**
- Minimum 2 years working in an Optical Lab required
- Technically inclined/ machinery experience an asset.

**Working Conditions**
- On feet most of the day
- Low, moderate and high noise levels (not to exceed standards)
- Near vision and sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers. Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hands and fingers.
- Occasional lifting/ carrying 10 lbs or less, pushing/ pulling 30 lbs 0r less.
