**_The following short-term contract opportunity is for approximately nine months, working 35 hours per week._**

As the
**Manager, Accounting**, you are responsible for the oversight of the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. This responsibility includes ensuring the accuracy and completeness of CPSA's revenues and non-payroll expenses during budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and year-end financial reporting. You will summarize financial information and make recommendations to the leadership team for decision-making purposes. You will also provide direct supervision and performance management of a group of accounting team members.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- ** Accounting oversight duties**:

- Maintain relationships between the accounting team and all CPSA departments and program areas.
- Review published month and quarter-end reporting packages, department and program area budgets and forecasts.
- Maintain CPSA's chart of accounts, review requirements for new accounts, sub-accounts and file numbering conventions.
- Maintain CPSA's schedule of fees and implement in appropriate CPSA database.
- Provide back-up for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as needed.
- **
Reporting and presentations**:

- Consolidate financial information and prepare briefing notes for leadership.
- Assist CFO with meeting preparation to the Finance & Audit Committee (FAC) including quarterly financial results, surplus review, and monitoring of executive limitations.
- Assist CFO with accounting-related requests for proposals and subsequent bid evaluations.
- **
Accounting reviews and reconciliations**:

- Monitor completion of month, quarter, and year-end close procedures by accounting team.
- Review month and quarter-end working papers and journal entries including revenue and investment account reconciliations.
- Review financial reporting for government grants and monthly GST returns.
- **
Management and supervision**:

- Manage, coach, and support accounting team members; conduct quarterly performance check-ins.
- Participate in CPSA manager rounds to gain perspective on department and program activities and provide accounting insights when relevant.
- **
IT Project Liaison**:

- Act as accounting lead for joint projects.
- Manage testing of IT changes impacting accounting.
- **
Manage external audit process**:

- Review and provide guidance for drafting year-end audited financial statements.
- Coordinate year-end financial statement audit with external auditor and review working papers prior to submission.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**:

- Specialized professional skills typically obtained through a Bachelor's degree plus professional certificate in area of specialty or equivalent.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

**Experience**:

- Requirement for 5 to 8 years of related experience.
- Experience leading a small team.

**Skills**:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proficient with MS Excel.
- Positive team attitude.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and BI360/Solver is considered an asset.

**SALARY**
The salary for this position is $9,140 per month and includes a benefit package.
