**The opportunity**:
Reporting to the Chair and Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) develops strategy and drives execution by working collaboratively with related organizations to prepare our operations for a sustainable future, to build our capacity to serve the community, ultimately becoming _the_ innovative organization integrating recreation, sport, fitness, and community wellness.

With both a strategic and operational focus, the CEO, through an innovative and diverse team, will understand, direct, advance, and communicate the value of the RA. Using exceptional communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills, you efficiently execute while leading and engaging a team of dedicated employees, a diverse group of volunteers/members, external partners, and a variety of stakeholders. You exhibit strong resiliency while navigating through the unknown, charting and executing a path forward. You are an expert at facilitating conversations and collaborating with people from various backgrounds to find creative and innovative solutions.

Primary accountabilities include:

- Develop and execute the strategic, business, and operational plans by working with the Board, staff, and other stakeholders
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the strategic and operational plans, including risks to the physical, financial, and human resources, and to the credibility and reputation of the RA
- Inspire a small executive team to engage in complex work in a way that values diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Lead and develop RA staff including fostering a safe and respectful work environment which supports continuous learning and innovation
- Identify and nurture partnerships, negotiate agreements with municipal, provincial, and federal representatives as well as strategic partners and stakeholders
- Manage major projects, including large capital investments, through to completion on time and within budget
- Increase awareness and reach of the RA via dynamic networking; engage with community stakeholders (City of Ottawa, health service providers, elected representatives, educational institutions, private program and service providers, etc.) to facilitate emerging funding and/or partnership opportunities
- Liaise locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally with sport and wellness professionals to continue to build industry-related networks for potential leveraging opportunities
- Provide information, advice, executive secretariat support to the Board and its committees/advisory panel(s) to facilitate effective Board governance and stewardship
- Provide executive direction to the RA’s administrative responsibilities and functions, including the development of policies, programs, financial controls, standards, and regulatory functions; evaluate the policies, programs, and structure of the RA
- Provide executive oversight of the financial and budgetary functions
- Establish systems and metrics to report the RA’s progress towards short
- and long-term goals; communicate results internally and to stakeholders, including community partners, to facilitate assessment/improvement of the organization’s performance
- Manage and develop relations with sponsors, media, and community partners to build support for the RA’s mandate among related organizations, stakeholders, and the public; serve as official spokesperson for the RA
