**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Director, Faculty Relationships will lead the faculty and labour relations strategy and services for the University. The position will lead a team providing professional guidance and consulting services to members of the University community on all matters pertaining to the terms and conditions of employment for faculty. Utilizing exceptional communication, influencing and collaboration skills, the Director, Faculty Relationships will actively promote and foster a positive and constructive faculty and labour relations environment in a complex, multi-union organization. The position reports to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development in supporting the strategic directions of the University in collaboration with Executive and Senior Leaders.

The Director, Faculty Relationships will:

- Develop and oversee implementation of a labour and faculty relations and service strategy to support Laurentian’s renewed future;
- Foster an environment that supports a pro-active and constructive relationships with labour partners through the effective, consistent and collaborative administration of relevant policies, past practice, arbitration decisions, legislation and the collective agreements;
- Coach and develop team members to provide excellent service and to reach their full potential;
- Oversee the development and delivery of workshops and/or training for stakeholders on the administration of collective agreements, policies and best practices in labour and employee relations;
- Utilize a proactive problem solving approach to manage conflict and/or resolve difficult employment situations, consistent with the University's policies, collective agreements, past practices, arbitration precedents and applicable legislation;
- Develop recommendations and solutions to deal with complex labour relations issues and facilitate issue resolution process;
- Provide guidance to staff and final review in the collection of data and information in preparation for grievance responses and mediation/arbitration hearings;
- Attend mediation/arbitration hearings as needed, and when complex and potentially impactful matters arise;
- Help ensure all legislated, collective agreement and policy driven obligations of the University are met;
- Prepare strategic collective agreement bargaining plans, and oversee research and data analysis in advance of negotiations;
- Serve as chief negotiator and/or bargaining team member in collective bargaining;
- Liaise with other academic and staff relations professionals in post-secondary to understand trends and best practice within the sector;
- Ensure compliance with the University’s commitments and policies by monitoring critical deadlines, managing personnel data, and overseeing the preparation of documents, notices, and other administrative communications;
- Other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A Bachelor's degree in business administration, commerce, human resources, psychology or related field and/or equivalent combination of experience and education;
- A Master’s degree in Labour Relations, Business Administration or L.L.B/J.D. is an asset
- A CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset;
- Five to ten years experience in a leadership role within human resources and labour relations coupled with proven knowledge of applicable employment legislation;
- Experience assessing and interpreting complex collective agreement language and providing effective guidance to stakeholders;
- Experience in collective bargaining and labour negotiations;
- Demonstrated experience in successful conflict prevention and resolution;
- Experience handling contentious matters with sensitivity, confidentiality, and balance;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including adept listening skills;
- Exceptional coaching, facilitation and negotiation skills;
- Excellent organizational skills to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and the need to respond quickly to meet departmental/employee needs and resolve problems;
- Third party facilitation / mediation training is an asset;
- Verbal and written competency in both official languages (French and English) is required.

**SALARY**

$105,217 - $120,599

**Hours of Work**

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
