Laurentian University
, located in Sudbury, Ontario, serves approximately 7500 students and is one of two
bilingual universities in the province of Ontario. Committed to its bilingual, tri-cultural mandate, Laurentian

Laurentian's beautiful, forested campus is surrounded by fresh-water lakes, conservation lands and hundreds of

geographic centre of Greater Sudbury, northern Ontario's major urban centre (population 170,000). Laurentian

The Faculty of Arts includes the following programs: Criminology/Criminologie; Economics; English; Equity,
Diversity and Human rights/Équité, diversité et droits de la personne; French as a Second language/Français
langue seconde; Gerontology; History; Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity (PhD)/Sciences humaines et
interdisciplinarité (Ph.
D.); Indigenous Interdisciplinary Studies and Anishnaabemowin Land-Based Immersion;
Interdisciplinary Studies/Études interdisciplinaires; Law and Justice/Droit et justice; Psychology/Psychologie
(BA, B.Sc. and MA); Sociology/Sociologie. The Faculty of Arts offers programs in French and in English with
a number of them being offered online. The Faculty of Arts is supported by 33 full-time faculty members,
sessional faculty, 7 administrative employees and has over 1800 undergraduate and graduate students.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, contributes significantly to the Strategic Research Plan and the Academic Plan of the
University and promotes focused areas of research excellence within the Faculty while continuing to maintain
strong graduate and undergraduate programs as well as courses that are critical to the success of programs offered
in other Faculties. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President, Academic, the Dean will foster strong
relationships with faculty members and Directors and will work collaboratively with a number of stakeholders
including governance bodies, fellow Deans, senior administration, student associations, and external partners. In
collaboration with the Advancement Office, they will actively engage with alumni and help raise funds to support
priority initiatives for the Faculty.

both institutional and Faculty goals. They will lead and unify the Faculty with both a visionary and administrative
focus and will bring a passion for excellence in teaching, research and innovation. They will have a PhD in a
relevant discipline, a proven record of leadership and extensive academic administrative experience with
particular emphasis on issues of academic planning, curriculum development, the student experience, and faculty
development. They will demonstrate experience with fostering a culture of respect and collegiality. The position
requires excellent communication skills and fluency in both English and French.
