**About Position**:
This project is part of the Region of Peel Building Safer Communities (BSC) initiatives. Projects are aimed at developing community-based prevention and intervention strategies to tackle youth gun and gang activites, and to develop a Youth Gun and Gang Prevention and Intervention Strategy for Peel. The role of the Youth Worker(s) as part of PCHS’s project under the BSC is to work with South Asian youth currently in trouble with the law or at risk of getting in trouble with the law. These youth workers will work alongside other stakeholders and community organizations to help provide wrap around supports to youth and opportunities to be a part of their communities.

**Qualifications and Skills Required**:

- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or a related field.
- Relevant certifications or taining in youth development or counselling.
- Minimum 2 years of recent and related experience working with youth and/or at risk youth.
- Strong communication skills.
- Empathy and cultural competence.
- Experience in counselling or mentoring at-risk youth.
- Knowledge of how the youth justice system works.
- Ability to create and implement effective interventions.
- Conflict resolution and crisis management skills.
- Case management skills.
- Familiar with tracking statistics for the program and collecting data.
- Ability to build trust and establish rapport.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to collaborate and work with other organizations.
- Familiar with resources related to youth mental health, youth employment, youth mentoring, educational opportunities, etc.
- Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations.
- Fluency in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu or other South Asian languages is an asset.
- Comfortable with using Cloud technology and SharePoint is an asset.

**Requirements**:

- A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Screening (Criminal Record Check) report
- Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle with valid insurance
- Current CPR and First-Aid certification
- Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are encouraged

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work with South Asian youth currently in trouble with the law or at risk of getting in trouble with the law.
- Work alongside the courts, Peel Regional Police, Peel District School Board, and other Community Organizations serving youth to identify youth in need of interventions and support.
- Meet and work with youth in the community or other safe spaces.
- Provide one on one supportive counselling to youth.
- Provide youth with life skill development sessions.
- Develop care plans and provide support in changing behaviors leading to gang related activities.
- Connect youth with resources to address employment, education, housing, mental health, addictions and social integration.
- Help prevent youth from getting into trouble with the law.
- Help to deter youth from repeating offenses.
- Participate in outreach activities to promote the program and services to youth.
- Other related duties as required.
