**About the Role**:Music Production Lead

Fernie Youth Services is launching an urban music therapy program. Over 16 weeks, the Beat Builders program will equip youth experiencing obstacles with new skills, tools, and meaningful mentorship to boost their mental health and sense of accomplishment in the short term while empowering them with skills to flourish in the long term.

This position is a key part of Fernie Youth Services Community Service Programming. Specifically, this role belongs to the Beat Builders urban music therapy program, focused on supporting youth in music discovery and listening, song writing, and digital music production, and other related technological experience essential in the digital world.

The ability to communicate program needs, and engage with community stakeholders, high-profiled guests, and influencers to maintain client interests is required. The incumbent must also be flexible to work 10 hours per week during the evening. Ensuring the maintenance of the equipment and physical space needs on a continual basis will be essential.

As part of the overall Fernie Youth Services team, the Music Production Lead will participate in staff-wide meetings, communications and other activities.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Coaching youth on how to use equipment adequately and appropriately
- Gathering ideas and inspiration for youth and helping them to create projects and develops the vision and direction for each project
- Teaching youth about sound editing techniques
- Providing updated and relevant information regarding the music world to youth regarding but not limited to: appropriate marketing, social media use, recording, production, and promotion.
- Checking Studio Equipment and Physical Space and communicating needs or issues to Program Coordinator, for each session and for the program overall
- Working directly and collaboratively with the Clinical Lead and the Youth Worker to deliver and enhance the program
- Engaging in Fernie Youth Services organization-wide activities

**About You**:Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum Degree or Diploma in Music Production or related field.
- 2 years of experience working with marginalized/disadvantaged youth
- Sound engineering
- Lyrical analysis
- Songwriting (music theory & composition)
- Recording
- Production (Logic/GarageBand/Pebbles, etc.)
- Musical ability
- Empathy and sensitivity
- Communication Skills
- Ability to work with clients and co-workers from diverse backgrounds
- Working in team environments
- Effectively deal with challenging situations and experience dealing with challenging behaviours
- Police Record Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Minimum 2 COVID-19 vaccinations

**About Salary and Benefits**:

- 10 hours per week at $25 - $35/hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications and certifications; 2 Year Contract; evening and afternoon hours required.
- Staff training and development opportunities throughout the year

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
Part-time hours: 10 per week

**Salary**: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
