**Working for the Department/Faculty**

Facilities Services is accountable to ensure planning and resourcing for the delivery of maintenance, custodial and inspection services to Campus Services’ physical assets, comprising approximately 60 buildings with a total area in excess of 160,000 square meters.

**Position**

Reporting to one of the Facility Area Supervisors (proposed new position-see accompanying JFS), the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the daily monitoring of Campus Services' equipment and buildings, and performs repairs and maintenance (within code regulations) in a variety of building operation disciplines and trades: Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliances, Food Service/Day-Care Equipment, Carpentry, Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning

**Duties**
- Monitors daily equipment and buildings, performs repairs and maintenance (within code regulations), in a variety of building operation disciplines and trades: Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Appliances, Food Service/Day-Care Equipment, Carpentry, Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning
- Repairs and maintains toilets, showers, sinks, garburators, taps, drains and sewer lines. Has the knowledge to safely operate power tools, e.g. electric snakes, pipe threaders, saws, etc.
- Performs simple soldering and/or welding duties, as required.
- Checks, makes adjustments to, and repairs hot water heating, steam, forced air/furnaces, as well as on ventilation and air-conditioning equipment.
- Performs carpentry related duties, such as repairs and replacing of glass, screens, doors, windows, hinges, locks, furniture, countertops, partitions, filing cabinets and kitchen cabinets.
- Repairs and replaces walls, carpets, linoleum, baseboards, floor and wall ceramic tiles, false ceilings, etc.
- Repairs and replaces various appliance components such as motors, pumps, timers, bearings, heating elements, burners, thermostats, bulbs, thermocouples, limit controls, fans, blowers, belts, valves, etc.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties such as moving furniture, appliances, assisting co-workers in related duties, etc.
- Maintains safe operation and mechanical rooms, building systems and repairs and maintains building equipment
- Detects and remedies routine equipment deficiencies, in order to rectify with minimum discomfort to students and prudent financial impact to the department.
- Assists University trades personnel from time-to-time, as needed.
- Assists in scheduling and coordinating the day-to-day activities of casual summer maintenance staff in delivery of the Preventative Maintenance Program.
- Monitors monthly inventory on maintenance shop stock, assures necessary parts and materials are available to complete the work orders.
- Prepares progress reports for the FAS, including status of assignments, program implementation, upcoming projects and casual summer staff-related matters.
- Monitors daily, weekly and monthly maintenance operation in the area of responsibility, initiates purchasing requests, listing complete product descriptions, and receives under signature, the required products, parts, equipment, etc.
