Homework and Education Youth Facilitator

The Homework and Education for Elmwood Youth Facilitator is a member of the Reach Out (RO) Team
- an afterschool Youth Program thatprovides youth with academic support, capacity building and recreational activities, connecting to community resources and social services.

**Responsibilities as Facilitator**
- Liaise with school personnel, community agencies, RO program teams to provide wrap around supports for youth accessing the program based on their needs, strengths, and challenges;
- Develop grades 7-12 learning materials, lesson plans, and activities in math and physical sciences that engage youth and support their academic learning;
- Develop and facilitate additional interactive activities that will improve mathematic, science, problem solving and language skills;
- Assess participant strengths and challenges, including youth with specific learning needs in order to develop Individualized Learning Plan for each youth;
- Conduct Summer Literacy program (July & August) to provide continuous enrichment literacy support to youth.
- Develop healthy and strong relationship with youth and their families, community support;
- Complete administrative work including set up and clean up (daily attendances, daily log books, narrative report, as well as organizing program participants file);
- Ensure that ECRC program standards, guidelines, and policies are being followed,
- Participate in team meeting and staff meeting.

**Skills and Qualifications**
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Must be able to approach youth to initiate conversation and relationship
- Demonstrate Knowledge and understanding of high school sciences and math curriculum
- Must be able to maintain open lines of communication with other staff
- Experience working in an educational setting would be an asset
- Experience facilitating an afterschool program for youth aged 12-21 years old will be an added advantage
- Experience working with at-risk youth and/or understanding of inner-city issues
- Demonstrate knowledge and confidence in teaching, role modeling and providing hands on tutoring for youth in need of homework assistance
- Must be patient and compassionate, sensitive to youth’s previous experiences in educational settings
- Must complete a satisfactory criminal record check and child abuse registry check

**Work Hours**:The hours of work will be between 2:30-8:00pm Mondays to Fridays; however, some weekends may be required as per the needs of the program**
