**About the Opportunity**

The Employment Support Mentor assists youth seeking employment by successfully transitioning them to the workforce. This position is responsible for creating community partnerships and developing work experience opportunities for youth in need of employment.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Duties and responsibilities of the Employment Support Mentor include but are not limited to:

- Develops partnerships with Winnipeg based businesses and organizations to create positive work experience opportunities for youth
- Interviews applicants to assess suitability for work readiness
- Intake of all new participants utilizing assessments and screening tools to identify strengths and needs
- Assessing and collaborating with participants to develop individualized Personal Development Plans (PDP) including goals to boost workplace literacy
- Assists participants to explore various career options that meet their needs and interests
- Ensures supports for mental health and cultural needs are met by facilitating referrals to enhanced support services
- Meets regularly with participants to provide progress reports
- Support and assists participants and employers with any issues that may arise
- Develops, reviews and updates the work experience partnership database
- Coordinates employment placements for all participants
- Provides financial oversight for payment to work experience partnerships
- Delivers and facilitates training and workshops that are focused on enhancing workplace literacy and skill development
- Other duties as requested by the Skills4Life Program Manager

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Two (2) years of related experience with at-risk youth
- Two (2) years experience in curriculum development and delivery or in an employment counseling or job coach role
- Post-secondary education in the human services field
- Proven ability to network and create positive community partnerships
- Demonstrates effective leadership attributes
- Understanding and appreciation towards the impact of Canadian history, its impacts related to colonization and outcomes from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission including the Calls to Action
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office at an Intermediate level
- Knowledge of community resources
- Knowledge of Strengths based and Solution Oriented approaches
- Crisis intervention, harm reduction techniques and conflict resolution skills
- Applicant certifications (i.e. First Aid/CPR Level C, ASIST, De-Escalation training, Mental Health First Aid and Safe Talk)
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months
- Ability to be flexible with scheduled based on program and participant needs (days evenings and weekends)
- Access to a personal vehicle for work is required.

**SALARY:'¯ **$42,000 - $45,000.

**HOURS OF WORK:'¯ **Full-Time term position '“ 80 hours biweekly including Days, Evenings and Weekends. ending March 31, 2024 with potential for extension
