The Safety Manager, Human Factors will support the development and implementation of an IATA Human Factors (HF) strategy, with associated initiatives that deliver tangible outcomes, in alignment with the IATA Safety Strategy to reduce the all-accident rate in aviation.

The scope includes providing an HF perspective, by understanding the issues and proposing solutions, on all relevant activities of the Operations, Safety and Security division of IATA. It includes the specific provision of HF expertise to operational issues when HF is integral to delivering a safe, and resilient, outcome.

The Safety Manager, Human Factors is responsible for representing IATA, and the airline industry, in various external forums including ICAO and industry groups to support the delivery of safety initiatives at global, regional and local geographical locations.

What your day would be like
- Establish, maintain and deliver a comprehensive HF program, under the IATA Safety Strategy, that will enhance the safety performance and safety culture of the industry.
- Support industry studies into organizational and operational issues, related to HF, to deliver identified safety initiatives.
- Drive the organization to adopt human-centred principles in the development and implementation of best practice and standards through IATA guidance material and the IOSA Safety and Recommended Practices.
- Deliver HF insights into the industry implementation of new technologies, and systems of work, to ensure IATA remain informed and can provide opinion on the future aviation system operating environment.
- Provide HF analysis, expertise, and support to safety risk assessments where HF has been identified as an area of interest.
- Support the training department in the development and continuous improvement of HF through bespoke training courses.
- Track regulatory changes, and their impact on HF, to support activities that communicate proposed changes to IATA members and, with feedback received, enable IATA to effectively advocate on behalf of industry.
- Engage with key industry stakeholders including the IATA Operations Advisory Council, IATA Safety Group and associated Task Forces, ICAO, professional organizations, industry groups and manufacturers to validate and align industry positions on HF.
- Act as IATA representative/speaker at relevant industry meetings.

We would love to hear from you if
- University graduate, plus advanced training from a recognized university or institution, such as IATA, on Human Factors and Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience of delivering an effective HF program within an industrial environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge in airline operations and hands-on experience conducting safety investigations, interviews, drafting reports and safety recommendations.
- Experience in delivering HF training to a global audience through both virtual and in-person events.
- Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and aviation reporting systems, safety principles, and just culture.
- Ability to conduct statistical analyses of data to provide actionable intelligence in areas where initiatives are identified.
- Excellent written communication skills in English are critical to this position; Other languages, such as French or Spanish, an asset.
- Ability to implement projects and programs with mínimal supervision, and to work independently and under pressure.
- Strong analytical, decision making, time-management and problem-solving skills.
