MacEwan University is seeking a HSE Specialist - Campus Services for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Campus Services department.

Under the general direction of the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Office, this position leads the implementation of the University’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System (HSEMS) and Contractor Management program for the division. The position is responsible for ensuring alignment with legislation, best practices, and University standards through hazard assessments, investigations, corrective actions, training, documentation, etc. This position promotes a safety culture through communication, education, and support to university and union leaders, supervisors, and employees.

Key responsibilities include:

- Implementing and administering the University’s HSEMS by working with divisional leaders and their respective groups ensuring that safe work practices are integrated into daily operations.
- Protecting employee safety and organizational liability by conducting hazard assessments, writing, and maintaining safe work procedures, reviewing incidents, and conducting inspections.
- Providing consultation, support, advice, information, and guidance for leaders, on occupational health and safety legislation, standards, programs and program requirements and the University's HSEMS to ensure the University is meeting its obligations to maintain a safe workplace.
- Conducting health and safety incident investigations assigned by HSE in accordance with the MacEwan’s Investigation Framework; this includes planning, interviewing, collecting, and analyzing documentation, reviewing systems, equipment, and safety data sheets, interpreting applicable legislation, and producing reports and recommendations to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Assisting HSE with serious or severe incident investigations.
- Consulting, coordinating, or conducting hazard/risk assessments and recommending effective controls to mitigate risk.
- Overseeing and implementing the Contractor Health and Safety Management Program under the HSEMS within the division.
- Contributing to the development of the University's Health, Safety and Environment management system, programs, standards, and procedures.

**SKILLS**:
You will have:

- Knowledge of a wide variety of health and safety hazards and OHS auditing practices.
- Knowledge of the applicable legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Solid incident investigation skills to effectively analyze situations and problems, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
- Proven project management skills with an attention for detail and the ability to execute on a plan.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inform, engage, and influence.
- The ability to build and maintain effective relationships and productive collaborations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Initiative, being proactive in identifying issues, developing solutions, and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and environmental management tools.
