The Four Directions Wellness Specialist will focus on Indigenous students, their families, and Elders to develop and engage in meaningful learning. The primary focus is to support school staff and their sites through a combination of consultation, facilitation, wellness, and cultural resource development. The job also focuses on integration of Indigenous knowledge systems and collaboration to advance positive outcomes for students in the school environment.

In this position, you will be an integral member of the department leadership team and participate in short
- and long-term strategic planning and decision-making. You will provide the team with advice, guidance, and mentorship in areas of expertise.

Part of this position includes planning and disseminating Indigenous-focused campaigns accessible across the Division.** **You will act as a liaison with school administration, mentor school staff, and support Braided Journeys Programs. The job is critical to the development of Indigenous Initiatives’ program development and delivery of holistic wellness supports for Indigenous students.

You will participate in the Division’s ongoing implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action (2015).

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Collaborate with staff to create circles of support for students.
- Facilitate traditional parenting groups.
- Coordinate family nights to increase engagement and involvement.
- Support implementation of initiatives focusing on social justice and reconciliation.
- Support the advancing of cultural inclusiveness and antiracism education.
- Collaborate to develop and advance supports for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.
- Collaborate with Elders to promote knowledge systems and healing practices in the Division’s work with students.
- Support programs and enhance academic and cultural supports for all students.
- Support existing programs to provide proactive interventions to address student needs.
- Coordinate, lead, and build sessions for Indigenous students and school staff.
- Develop, support, and maintain standards for best practice for student success following a collaborative response model and school continuum of specialized services and supports.
- Coordinate Division-wide social justice campaigns to develop leadership and promote reconciliation.
- Develop and implement wellness programming.
- Develop and assist in the delivery of special projects and celebrations.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to identify, select, develop, and produce high quality resources, programs, and community partnerships.
- Coordinate cultural arts programing.
- Develop and implement culturally relevant life skills and wellness workshops.
- Coordinate land-based learning opportunities.
- Support wellness and cultural learning experiences through the use of authentic resources that accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) peoples.
- Provide mentoring support to school staff to address wellness needs of students.

***QUALIFICATIONS**
- Degree or diploma in Human Services or Indigenous Studies, plus five years of directly related experience.
- Formal training in Human Services, addictions, health promotions and trauma.
- Lived experience in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.
- Knowledge of resource development principles and techniques of adult education resources that promote health and wellness.
- Knowledge of group management and facilitation techniques and principles.
- Understanding of supports available for students and families at the school, Division, and community level.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs, Abobe Photoshop/Publisher, website development and PowerSchool.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- General knowledge of the Division/department operations, programs, business, goals, and objectives.
- General knowledge of Division Inclusive Communities protocols.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced skills in working with trauma, intergenerational effects of Indian residential schools, sixties scoop survivors and Indigenous youth in care, and family violence.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
