**Main Function**:Plan, supervise, and coordinate activities and personnel engaged in the servicing, maintenance, fire protection, safety, and security of buildings and grounds of Tom Davies Square along with other facilities under the section, including but not limited to Lorne Street Transit Garage, in support of quality customer service and the business plan for the division. Responsible for the day-to-day safety, preventative maintenance, and equipment functionality.

**Characteristic Duties**:Under the general supervision of the Manager of Facilities Management.
- Assign and supervise maintenance and repair work required at Tom Davies Square along with other facilities under the section including but not limited to Lorne Street Transit Garage.
- Provide guidance and advice to City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) staff and contractors on all matters related to servicing, maintenance, fire protection, safety, and security of these buildings. Instruct staff in the use of fire equipment and fire drill duties.
- Identify issues and prepare recommendations/proposals to rectify issues while considering cost savings and the financial impact to CGS.
- Act as a technical resource on building issues across departments.
- Identify capabilities and limitations of current building systems and equipment for both aging and new infrastructure.
- Maintain files and supervise regularly scheduled testing of all fire alarm systems, extinguishers, and hoses.
- Requisition and control maintenance supplies and equipment and designate material to be used.
- Supervise the assignment of duties performed by the personnel within the section.
- Ensure the development of in-service training and staff development programs for maintenance staff.
- Recruit staff: plan and conduct orientation and staff meetings.
- Conduct job performance appraisals, salary reviews, and discipline in accordance with the respective collective bargaining agreement.
- Act as management’s representative in the grievance procedure in accordance with the respective collective bargaining agreement.
- Maintain maintenance records, reports, or other administrative data.
- Administer approved policies and procedures.
- Participate in stand-by duty following established schedules.
- Assist in the preparation, administration, and monitoring of current and capital budgets for the maintenance of Tom Davies Square along with other facilities under the section including but not limited to Lorne Street Transit Garage.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**:
**Education And Training**:

- Successful completion of secondary school (grade XII) education.
- Additional educational initiatives to update and expand competencies.
- Licensed in a related maintenance construction trade (Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning).
- Certification in Building Maintenance and/or Building Operations considered an asset.

**Experience**:

- A minimum of four (4) years of related building maintenance experience, two (2) of which should be in the supervision of general maintenance of facilities and equipment in an institutional setting.
- Demonstrate practical abilities in general maintenance and working knowledge of plumbing and heating, electrical and carpentry trades.
- Demonstrate supervisory and administrative skills.
- Must possess a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Broad range of functional knowledge related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, building automations systems and security access controls.

- Applicable legislation and related regulations, including a demonstrated knowledge of building codes and standards.
- Best practices within areas of responsibility.

**Abilities To**:

- Understand and meet the needs of customers.
- Prepare operating and capital budgets.
- Create enthusiasm and motivation for employees within the section to pursue CGS’s targets.
- Create and respond appropriately to a continuous learning environment.
- Balance conflicting demands from stakeholders.
- Manage conflict; mediate disputes; assist in reaching consensus.
