Administrative Full-time Position

The Accommodation and Wellness Specialist coordinates the case management process under the direction of the Manager, Accommodation, and Wellness. This involves assisting management, in partnership with HR team members, regarding all issues related to occupational and non-occupational disability claims, accommodation, attendance management, and return-to-work programs. This position monitors and tracks key trends related to Short/Long-Term Disability (STD/LTD), WSIB absences, and accommodation practices and identifies opportunities to support management in absence prevention/early intervention and successful return to work action plans.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides information and assistance to all levels of staff regarding college policies and procedures related to short-term, long-term entitlements and accommodation
- Completes appropriate paperwork in conjunction with the manager for the medical consultant/carrier to adjudicate the claim
- Follows up on outstanding or required actions to ensure employee receives appropriate communication
- Coordinates return to work and plans in conjunction with the carrier, manager, HR Advisor and union as appropriate
- Facilitates Return to Work (RTW) process, organizing activities and attending meetings as appropriate
- Researches and assists in the implementation of work-related accommodations related to health issues
- Provides information and explains options for an unpaid leave of absence related to job-protected leaves
- Work with employees requiring family accommodation, ensuring appropriate documentation has been reviewed and formal accommodation plans are in place
- Provides advice and coaches management on issues related to disability claims, attendance management, and strategies for safe and early return to work programs
- Responds to attendance concerns of employees, manager, and unions
- Investigates as necessary and make recommendations to prevent recurrence
- Submits claim forms correctly and file within the time frames imposed by the board, compiles report and supports early and safe return to work
- Enters statistical data
- Tracks and analyzes the costs and benefits of the disability management program
- Responsible for compilation and gathering statistical information for reporting purposes; compiles paperwork and statistical reports (injury, severity, lost time, Sick Leave Gratuity etc.)

Qualifications:

- Three-year Diploma/Degree in Business or relevant field of study
- CHRP Designation is considered an asset
- Three years of experience in disability management or accommodation for occupational or non-occupational injuries
- Training in disability management is considered an asset
- Familiarity with WSIB claims and benefits processing, and Return to Work and accommodation for occupational and non-occupational illnesses
- Knowledge of unionized workplaces and the implications of Collective Bargaining Agreements is considered an asset
- Broader negotiation skills, including active listening, expectation management, and demonstrated integrity
- Collaborative team player with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret legislation
- Proficient use of computer
