Administrative Full-time Replacement Position

The Senior Advisor, Privacy is responsible for Conestoga’s privacy portfolio and must have a working knowledge of freedom of and access to information, privacy breach management, and privacy program compliance.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with two days on-site, and three days remote.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a subject matter expert for any issues that have exposure to privacy risk
  • Keep abreast of current and new privacy legislative and regulatory requirements through a variety of knowledge and information seeking strategies
  • Manage all activities and requests related to privacy such as freedom of information, access to information, contract language review, procurement management, etc.
  • Coordinate and conduct privacy breach investigations and identify the appropriate mitigating strategies and enterprise level recommendations where appropriate
  • Responsible for annual statistical reporting to Information and Privacy Commissioner’s Office of Ontario
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments, including on new IT systems, programs, and complex initiatives
  • Develop strong relationships with various internal and external stakeholders to foster a culture of privacy
  • Complete and/or support privacy projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Privacy Office
  • Review and update policies, procedures, guidelines, and business requirements
  • Identify areas where value can be added to current Conestoga processes through the implementation of privacy practices, guidelines, and protocols
  • Conduct research and provide analysis on privacy-related issues, as required
  • Deliver general and role-based privacy training for employees and external stakeholders
  • Act as a backup for other risk related functions
  • Participate in professional development opportunities
  • Assist in any risk related issues as assigned by the Chief Risk Officer
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Privacy, Information Systems, Business Administration, Cybersecurity, Law, or a related field of study
  • Minimum five years of practical work-related experience information privacy, information security, records management, or a related field
  • Experience working in a College/University or Broader Public Sector setting will be considered an asset
  • Privacy related designations (e.g., CIPP/C) are an asset
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Canadian and Ontario privacy legislation (e.g., FIPPA, PHIPA, PIPEDA, etc.) as well as a broader understanding of privacy legislation in other countries (e.g., USA, Europe)
