Location: Varsity View Sportsplex and Laxdal Hall

Hours: 37.5 hours/week, daytime with some evening and weekend shifts

**Salary**: Incumbent would be part of CUPE Local 500

Probation: Six months.

Summary

Varsity View Community Centre is looking for a knowledgeable and dependable individual to join our team. The Facilities Manager will lead the team of facility maintenance staff to ensure all aspects of the facility and grounds are maintained and in good working condition in order to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all who use and work at our centre.

The Facilities Manager will report to the Board of Directors and follow requirements put forth by the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centers and the City of Winnipeg. The incumbent will be supporting the programming and operations of the community recreation facilities, grounds and services and will administer the facilities and programming as directed by the Board of Directors.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

- Oversee maintenance of buildings’ mechanical and electrical equipment including but not limited to: Compressors, pumps (heat, water, and brine), building automation systems, boilers, HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Maintenance of compressors, motors, lines, condensers, pumps and chillers for ice plant.
- Assist with all issues pertaining to the day-to-day operations of the ammonia ice plant and all other facility mechanical systems.
- Leads or assists with maintenance and construction projects of various sizes, as required.
- Maintain detailed job logs of all duties and maintenance.
- Provide input for budget development.
- Maintain heavy machinery such as Zamboni and tractor
- Liaise with external contractors on behalf of Varsity View
- Liaise with renters—both potential and confirmed--as needed on behalf of Varsity View
- Install, maintain and remove indoor and outdoor ice surfaces using various mechanical hand-held tools, and motorized equipment.
- Recruit, train and oversee all staff at the facility, such as seasonal rink and Green Team members.
- Personal responsibility and leadership of others in ensuring compliance with facility rules, regulations and guidelines regarding safety and safe work procedures.
- Maintain all softball diamonds and fields at the Sportsplex facility as advised by the Board’s softball conveyor, and ensure Green Team member is assisting as needed
- Shoveling snow and ensuring parking lot is cleared of snow in a timely manner
- Keep informed of Centre bookings and prepare facility accordingly
- Tend to garbage and recycling needs and ensure all aspects of facilities and grounds are in good working and order and cleanliness standards upheld.
- Set up or arrange to have tables and chairs set up and/or taken down in hall to meet programming needs.

**- Manitoba W Class 5 Refrigeration Power Engineer's certificate.**
- Experience in maintenance at a sports & entertainment facility
- Strong knowledge and ability to supervise/conduct general maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repair and electrical.
- Experience managing building maintenance and/or construction projects of varying sizes also considered an asset.
- Ability to lead and manage a small team of arena operators and attendants
- Ability to maintain composure and make decisions under stressful situations.
- Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work independently with little to no supervision
- Must be self-motivated and diligent
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Record keeping ability
- Must be flexible and willing to work extended hours, evenings and weekends as required.
- Must possess class 5 Manitoba drivers’ license.

**Salary**: From $70,000.00 per year
