**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**1. Leadership & Culture**
- Observing, counseling, and motivating professional staff towards becoming a high performing team in order to attain the goals of Glarea.
- Maintaining and supporting Glarea’s philosophy and culture which encourages cooperation, collaboration and respect.
- Identifying intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs affecting students' success in school and taking steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff.
- Keeping informed of current practices and techniques relating to school programs, teaching and administration by attending meetings and professional development conferences, and reading professional materials.
- Observing staff performance, recording observations, and conducting staff evaluation conferences.
- Participating in the shortlisting, recruitment, and selection of new teaching and classified personnel.
- Demonstrating professional, ethical, and responsible behavior aligning with Glarea’s core values. Serving as a role model for all staff.
**2. Curriculum & Programming**
- Developing and supporting a high degree of student morale through curricular and extracurricular activities and services
- Assisting the teaching staff in the development, implementation, modifications, and selection of curriculum materials.
- Leading the teaching team to plan and carry out teaching using the CBL Model and Ministry of Education curriculum accurately and efficiently, including STEM and design thinking.
- Designing and implementing both summative and formative assessments to monitor and document student learning (student report cards).
- Preparing and implementing programs for students requiring extra help - ensuring students who need specialized diagnosis and help receive appropriate professional assistance.
- Being available for parent-teacher meetings/interviews, special school events and functions, and school professional development days based on school calendars (available and posted two months prior to each term).
**3. Ministry of Education Requirements & Liaison**
- Completing all BC Ministry of Education paperwork.
- Preparing, maintaining and filing school based records, lists and reports including school attendance policies and individual student attendance records etc.
- Liaising with the Ministry of Education for communication, requirements, and information.
- Preparing paperwork to maintain the standards and requirements for a class 4 designation with the Independent School Board with the Ministry of Education.
- Preparing all Ministry paperwork and requirements for school expansion.
- Preparing for BC Ministry of Education Yearly Review.
- Other Ministry-related duties and projects as assigned.
**4. Student Experience**
- Recommending any changes which will lead to improved administration, supervision or an opportunity for student development.
- Being prepared to fill in the roles of a TOC or classroom teacher as required.

**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
- Possess a **Bachelor’s degree or higher** qualification in education
- **Previous experience **working as an elementary school principal in an independent school setting
- Models a strong work ethic as a leader of a school community
- Fosters school mission, values and sense of community through student-centered decisions
- Effectively communicates with staff, parents and students
- Maintains professionalism through all school interactions and activities
- Values continual personal professional growth and development
- Values continual growth and development of school programs and curriculum
- Participates in reflective practice and engages in continuous professional growth
