Position Description - Dance Instructor

Element Dance Arts Is Growing Weʼre seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a recreational and competitive level dance instructor (as an independent contractor)

The objective of the position is to teach structured dance technique classes to recreational and competitive level dancers. Your personality and instruction style will align with the core values of Element Dance Arts where we place an emphasis on providing quality dance education to all levels and abilities. Our studio values collaboration, encouragement and inclusivity, while providing dancers with valuable life skills and tools they will carry with them into the world outside of dance, such as the values of handwork, perseverance and commitment.

Teachers will reflect these values in all that they say and do. As a member of the Element Dance Arts team, you’ll work cohesively with other faculty members and office staff to provide a seamless delivery

Estimated Hours Per Week: 4-12 hours per week

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Dance Instruction
- Demonstrate basic technique
- Instruct basic and advance dance skills
- Facilitate group learning
- Demonstrate safe teaching methods
- Foster and promote inclusive learning environment
- Create a “child safe” learning environment
- Follow EDA procedures and protocols

2. Year-end recital choreography
- Create group routines for each specified class for annual year-end recital in a timely manner that are appropriate for their skill level and age

3. Light administrative tasks
- Complete reports and communication with studio directors and admin staff with regards to choreography and recitals

Requirements of the Position

Planning & Organization:

- Planning and preparing classes
- Circulating promotional/parent information materials
- (when necessary) completing administrative tasks by specific deadlines
- Planning for contingencies
- Following policies and procedures designed to ensure safety and consistency without varience

Self Management:

- Setting personal development goals
- Maintaining require standard of physical fitness (to safely spot and train acrobatic skills)
- Maintaining required standard of attire and grooming to accurately represent the level of professionalism expected at EDA
- Responding appropriately to constructive feedback on own performance
- Seeking ways to continuously improve own performance as an instructor

Learning:

- Monitoring own work and introducing strategies to improve performance
- Reflecting on and enhancing own ability to contribute effectively to a dance teaching environment
- Improving teaching skills through professional development opportunities
- Seeking feedback and integrating constructive advice into own work performance

Knowledge
- A general knowledge of the business climate and community standard

Element Dance Arts
Position Description - Dance Instructor
- A general knowledge of the dance industry and functioning of dance schools

Qualifications/Training
- Certification in Acrobatic Arts or similar training module preferred

Experience
- Dance ability to a high standard
- Planning and preparation of classes
- Dance training
- Choreography of group dance pieces
- Self-Motivated and Excellent Direction-Taker - You know how to prioritize the most important tasks (at times with mínimal guidance), and how to think on your feet. At the same time, you pride yourself in your ability to take direction and deliver the desired result.
