Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Sustainability & Energy Performance, the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator’s primary focus will be initiating, improving, strengthening, and communicating sustainability practices across campuses and facilities as it relates to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in buildings, energy, transportation, waste, water, food services, grounds, and procurement.

The incumbent will be knowledgeable in environmental sustainability and climate action topics (e.g., energy conservation, alternative transportation, GHG emission reporting, waste reduction, circular economy, life cycle analysis and planning). They will be involved in the implementation of various environmental sustainability projects championed by Facilities Management, adhering to prescriptive timelines and budgets. The incumbent will work with faculty, staff, and students to initiate, improve, and strengthen sustainable practices across campuses and work to foster collaboration and coordination of Student Life and Campus Operations.

**Responsibilities**:
**Project Coordination**
- Initiate, improve, and strengthen sustainable practices across campuses and work to foster collaboration and coordination of Student Life and Campus Operations (buildings, GHG emissions, food services, grounds, purchasing, transportation, waste, and water)
- Assist in energy efficiency, conservation, and generation initiatives including planning with other teams and departments as needed
- Assist in implementing cost-effective and practical approaches to reduce or minimize energy use across campuses
- Provide support toward the achievement of our mandated goal of 60% waste diversion rate for all campuses by assisting with waste audits, the furniture relocation initiative, and other waste reduction initiatives as needed
- Handling incoming/outgoing mail and face-to-face communications while resolving issues that are deemed appropriate to the position

**Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting**
- Sustainability and GHG tracking, using tools such as RETScreen, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, and CarbonHound as required
- Completion of reports/assessments including Ministry of Environment GHG reports, Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority reporting, Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Impact Network
- Support monitoring progress of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap and Action Plan (GRRAP) implementation
- Oversee the collection, interpretation, and reporting of data on sustainability practices for the College including the compilation and dissemination of performance reports on specific buildings and departments relating to utilities and energy use
- Collect consumption data from monthly utility bills and input into tracking system

**Communications & Engagement**
- Organize and participate in student and staff engagement events/initiatives including seminars, workshops, and engagement tables, in response to evolving needs and opportunities
- Deliver training and orientation on sustainability topics applicable to Student Life and College operations
- Liaise with counterparts at other educational institutions, businesses, government, and the community to stay current and promote collaboration and information exchange
- Develop communications pieces such as case studies to spread awareness of the College’s sustainability initiatives and completed projects (ex: Solar Photovoltaic projects, geothermal heating system, thermal ice storage system, etc.)

**Qualifications**:

- Four-year Degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
- Minimum two years of experience in an environmental sustainability related role including project coordination and building business cases for sustainable decision making at a large institution or in an educational setting
- Experience with RETScreen and/or Portfolio Manager (Energy Star) is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of sustainability including sustainable building systems, transportation, food systems, Sustainable Development Goals, and equity in climate action efforts
- Advanced written communication and editing skills (writing case studies, slideshows, social media content, blogs, website content, presentations, etc.)
- Experience in coordinating and executing communications and stakeholder engagement plans
