**Position Summary**:
The On Point Facilitator role is multifaceted. It supports the program workers in the day to day work of cleaning up discarded harm reduction supplies in the community and green spaces. The role emphasizes outdoor work, safety, exceptional customer service, and mentorship of program workers. This position plays an important role in the harm reduction programs at JHS Durham, dedicated to promoting public safety and responsible disposal of syringes while fostering employability skills for those with lived experience. **Harm Reduction Focus**: The program's core mission is to protect both the public and substance users from the risks associated with the indiscriminate disposal of used syringes in public areas. The Facilitator is at the forefront of implementing harm reduction strategies within this program and developing relationships in the community that move these efforts forward.
**Training and Support**: The Facilitator collaborates closely with program workers to provide training, guidance, and support. This includes mentoring and assisting individuals as they navigate their employment journey.
**Adaptability**: The role requires adaptability as it involves being nonjudgmental, composed, and solution focused. Adapting to various situations and challenges is crucial to achieving the program's objectives.
**Community Impact**: In addition to addressing public safety concerns, the program aims to facilitate employment opportunities for program workers. It equips them with valuable skills and helps maintain stable housing.

Harm Reduction Coordinator, Harm Reduction Team, JHS Durham management team, agency employees, service seekers, and other community agencies and stakeholders.

**Responsibilities**:
**Key duties include**:
**Safety and Best Practices**: Ensure safety for oneself and others by following best practice guidelines.
**Program Workers**: Mentor, support, train, and build rapport with program workers to meet ongoing needs effectively.
**Training**: Provide training, including safer sharps handling, employability skills training, etc. as required.
**Program Promotion**: Assist with promoting the harm reduction program and the safe disposal of substance use paraphernalia to service users and the community.
**Community Education**: Educate and inform the community about the benefits of the harm reduction model as appropriate.
**Scheduling**: Schedule workers' hours and locations for program activities.
**Referrals**: Provide referrals to the appropriate resources for program participants.
**Team Meetings**: Lead team meetings and manage minute-taking duties.
**Community Relations**: Foster relationships with community organizations to support program goals
**Record Keeping**: Accept, monitor, and record incoming syringes, drug paraphernalia, and sharps containers used for disposal. Maintain program records.
**Reporting**: Complete accurate statistical and narrative reports.
**Deadlines**: Meet all required deadlines for program activities and reporting.
**System Adaptation**: Contribute to the ongoing adaptation of new systems and record-keeping methods to meet funding requirements and maintain accurate and accountable documentation.

**Requirements**:
**Education and Experience**:
A college diploma or higher in a related field, with a preference for backgrounds in Addictions and Mental Health.

**Approach**:
Utilize a trauma-informed approach, showing sensitivity and understanding of trauma in interactions with clients.

**Counselling and Crisis Support**:

Solid knowledge of communities and services in the Durham Region.

**Communication Skills**:
Ability to comprehend and execute instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form.
