Sun Life’s high caliber legal team is seeking a Lawyer to join them as Counsel, Sustainability & Governance at our global headquarters in downtown Toronto.

**What will you do**:

- Collaborating with our Sustainability, Government Relations and global business and legal teams to provide proactive and strategic advice on enterprise-wide sustainability matters
- Advising on sustainability related disclosures across the enterprise, including our annual Sustainability Report, Net Zero Report, TCFD disclosures, ED&I Report, as well as disclosures prepared by our global business groups
- Working closely with our Climate Change team on the development and reporting of net zero targets and compliance with our climate risk management approach
- Monitoring and advising on emerging ESG and climate related regulatory and political developments and coordinating stakeholders across the enterprise
- Working with Government Relations and internal stakeholders to respond to requests for comments on proposed legislative and regulatory changes
- Supporting and assisting with the coordination of various sustainability committees across the organization
- Advising on enterprise policy governance, working closely with our Risk and Compliance teams, as well as supporting the sustainability policies across the enterprise
- Support our Corporate Secretary department with governance advice, including with sustainability related shareholder engagement
- Act as the point person for Enterprise Compliance on regulatory compliance matters

- proactively engaged to keep up with regulatory developments and changes
- background in sustainability/ESG matters and corporate law
- skilled at simplifying complex legal concepts to provide pro-active advice in a clear and concise manner
- able to take a risk-based approach to the prioritization of work

**Qualifications**
- Must be licensed to practice law in Ontario
- Must have 5+ years of relevant corporate and securities law experience gained at a leading law firm or publicly traded company
