Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

**The Opportunity**

The Health, Safety and Environment Advisor will provide support to ensure that all Vale North Atlantic Project Group (NAPG) Studies and Projects are executed within the boundaries established by the applicable Acts, Regulations and Codes as well as the company policies. This will include managing and tracking the Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management System (HSERMS), tracking changes in the legislation, facilitating project risk assessments and work planning, contractor prequalification and training. In addition to project level activities, the HSE Advisor will also lead incident investigations, analyze trends in the key performance indicators, on a monthly basis report all HSER activities and coordinate safety initiatives.

Additional in this position, you will;
- Oversee all HSER programs for Vale's North Atlantic Project Group (NAPG).
- Ensure operational and procedural compliance with the Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations, Codes and Company policies.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to management on health, safety, environment and risk issues.
- Assist the Project team and other stakeholders with interpretation of Vale Systems and rules, assist in communication with Plant HSER resources
- Field visits to site to ensure compliance to Regulations, Vale standards, and the project HSER program.
- Support the field implementation and management of the specific NAPG Project Execution Plan for Construction and Commissioning, including related project commitments.
- Coaching of individuals in the project within the principles and values behind the Vale Cultural Narrative, Home Safe philosophy and Project values.
- Lead/facilitate all incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis methodology and report findings internally following Vale's instructional documents and SAP-IM.
- Monitor on an ongoing basis leading and lagging HSER indicators for Vale NAPG.
- Responsible for implementing Vale's NAPG Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management System.
- Design and run Emergency Response Drills as required. Identify any gaps and ensure resources are made available for the protection of the workers.
- Develop safe work procedures based on needs identified through on-going risk assessments.
- Lead risk assessment workshops for all projects at their inception through completion (PMRA).
- Participate in the creation/review of JHA's for all scopes of work. Ensure risks are managed based on JHA outcomes, assessing the exposure, managing the risks and monitoring the effectiveness of controls
- Maintain Project Risk Registers and update them as the scope of work changes or in the event of an incident.

- Identify, develop and implement training programs and orientations for Vale NAPG based on applicable regulations, corporate requirements, and Project requirements
- Complete contractor prequalification and screening, monitor contractors Health and Safety programs and complete frequent inspection of contractor worksites.
- Support the implementation of NAPG HSER Initiatives
- Advocate for and support the Internal Responsibility System (IRS).
- Assist with HSER audits including the implementation of Action Plans to address non-compliance items.
- Assist with contractor HSER management.

**About You**

**Education**:

- Relevant 2-3 year Post Secondary Diploma

Mandatory Certification

Preferred Certification:

- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
- Basic Underground Common Core
- Underground Supervisor Common
